Well where else do you have nightmares? Doesn't matter whether your worst fear is zombies from the planet Hell or Jack Straw from the planet Bizarro, chances are you've woken up sweating from a nightmare about them, so the whole bedsheet thing is a guaranteed trip-switch into your most primal fears.
Plus, while I think about it, there are people who dress as beds the whole year round, adding the whole "pillowcase hat" thing for extra effect. And yes, normally, you'd think "what a bunch of stupid-looking tossers." Until they start burning crosses on your lawn and setting up the lynching-tree. Scary's not in the costume, dude, it's in the associations you make.
Think I might go as a TV this year, showing "The Reality Show of Simon Cowell" - surely the most scary re-write of Dorian Gray imaginable?

LMAO unfortunately for me I have yet to see someone dress up as a bed. I would really love that though.

Yes beds. They do that cause they are getting drunk that night and they are trying to hook up. That way they don't have to hunt a bed down. ....
