I personally find kilts to be quite masculine; it would depend on the man, however, as to what he would be comfortable wearing. On the whole, however, it's not the garment, it's the man inside that matters!

It is interesting that you should mention kilts, since they are becoming more popular.

Historical reanacting is a popular hobby for some people, and the desire to dress in period costume is one of the things that people find fascinating. A small select group of people found that wearing a kilt can be extremely practical, as well as a way to prove your masculinity. After all, it takes a big man to dare the ridicule they might get by wearing a kilt.

Below are a few links to companies that actually make and sell kilts in the United States. They have both men and women styles, so you can find a cute model wearing their products no matter what your sexual orientation happens to be.

Scotts and ancient Greeks had no other alternative but to wear skirts.

Nowadays, men wearing skirts is something really bizarre and I would not like to see the man I am dating or my husband to wear such a thing!
Of course I would not object my man buying a Scottish kilt and wear it some times, but of course within the limits of non being ridiculous.

A denim skirt at knee length is perfectly acceptable for a man in any environment -- PLEASE shave your legs and wear decent hose with them depending upon the weather. I've worn them out and about in public with friends, on dates with women and any number of occasions, everywhere and I have to tell you no one complains at all, because it's just a garment, it's not a statement or intended for shock value or for gender identity.

I present as a male always. I have absolutely no intention of dressing up as a "woman for the day", NO. But, I DO support people who vary their gender identities both male and female -- they have a right to be who THEY are not as we want them to be and your rights END where their nose begins legally.

To make the point even more, no one in the coffee shops, theaters, theme parks, restaurants, museums or at the beaches has ever come up to me and complained. Even at work, no one fronts me, I'm just a normal human being. The whole reason I wear solid denim skirts is that they are comfortable and healthy for a male to wear. They don't make me any less of a man at all. Pants are impossible, they constantly shift when driving and the sweat, heat and humidity make them unhealthy when it comes to the summer. As for skirts, if it gets cold I wear hose or tights with them and polo shirts or a shirt and tie combination always looks great with them.

This isn't' to say that denim skirts are the only item I can wear. I've worn other skirt fabrics and styles as well, but they're always solids, usually black if they're other than denim, but pleated, circle skirts, skater skirts, A-line or pencil skirts are entirely suitable even for special events. It's become such a hot item that my local group at the coffee shop insisted that all the women at my local coffee shop asked all the men to wear a skirt for the day and they did...and some are still wearing them after the switchover either because their girlfriends or wives insisted they are acceptable as normal attire or because of health reasons...pants are a breeding ground for major league yeast infections, fungus, mold, etc...and for men that's REALLY bad news...so some of us have switched over at our wive's request...

It's not that it's a cultural faux paus, it's that men don't try new things...if you're a crossdresser, get yourself a denim skirt of reasonable length and get out there. The first 10 minutes are nerve wracking, but once you reach that point all of a sudden you'll realize something I did 5 years ago...nobody cares as long as you have a personality and look clean, neat and presentable and are not trying to hurt anyone...

Maybe that is why all kinds of males in high school, college and even in adulthood are now wearing skirts everywhere...

The world is changing...change with it or your kids will be left behind...

Skirts are fine in the societies you mentioned but in western society skirts for men are not accepted. I would not like my husband to wear a skirt. Besides, why would you want to wear a skirt, they're not nearly as comfortable as slacks.
