Hi, Presidential elections are every 4 years. The next one will be in 2008. The new President will take office January 20, 2009 (this is called Inaguration Day).

The "contestants" are not known at this time. The next two years will bring about many candidates (as we call them) who will go through out the country, propose their ideas and changes and follow some polls. Usually about 2 of these candidates from each party will have a primary election. This is an election to determine which person will represent their party....Democrat or Republican. Sometimes there is a third party, such as an Independent, represented.

There are then the "conventions" where the candidate states their official platform (the ways they would like to change the country or ideas for programs such as Medicare.)

The election is the first Tuesday in November in 2008.

Despite our differences it's an orderly system and the day after an election...there isn't fighting in the streets. Our country may have some problems, but the USA is an amazing place where a vote actually means something great.

The elections are the first Tuesday in November, 2008.

We do not know who the candidates are yet. No one has announced their candidacy officially yet, and no party nominees will be chosen until after the official party conventions in summer of 2007.
