Iceland should be allowed to whale a limited amount of whales of types that are not in danger of extinction. There is no reason why they shouldn't be allowed to do what they are doing right now.

Most of the people who are against whaling will turn around and eat meat without hesitation and even buy it from companies that are known for inhumane methods of breeding and slaughtering animals. How is killing a whale any worse than killing a cow or a dog? Unlike what a lot of people think, the whales that Iceland has authorized the whaling of are not in danger of extinction.

Countries like the U.S. and Australia are hypocrites when they condemn the whaling. The U.S. practices whaling and Australia goes about shooting kangeroos because there's too many of them.

I think it's sad that animals must be killed sometimes, but that's life. I don't see why killing non-endangered whales is any different than killing other animals.

As long as the whales are not an endangered species. If they are endangered then the process should be eliminated or diminished as needed to ensure that they do not become extinct. I would think that whaling and fishing would be a large part of the Icelandic economy but the important thing is to keep a balance in the species in the world. The whales are at the top of the food chain and to destroy them could wreak havoc on other species. We need to be sensitive to the needs of our environment. It is a delicate balancing act. And it's nice to see you here my friend! Have a great day!

YES

The position of Iceland has always been that whale stocks should be utilised in a sustainable manner like any other living marine resource.

Icelandic policy on ocean issues is based on maintaining the future health, biodiversity and sustainability of the ocean surrounding Iceland, in order that it may continue to be a resource that supports and promotes the nation’s wellbeing. This involves conservation and management of the resources based on scientific knowledge and guided by respect for the marine ecosystem as a whole.

Abundance estimates for both minke and fin whales around Iceland have been approved both by the Scientific Committee of the International Whaling Commission (IWC) and the Scientific Committee of the North Atlantic Marine Mammal Commission (NAMMCO). Both have been deemed abundant.

NO! NO! NO!
Whales do not need 'controlling'.
The only reason for commercial anything is to make money; it has nothing to do with conservation.
When those whaling boats go out they don't care what they kill as long as there's profit in it.
Apart from anything else it's a terrible way to die, it can take hours. Sometimes they harpoon a mother with a dependent baby, how evil is that!
I will sign every petition that comes my way, and boycott any product of theirs that comes in to this country in my endeavours to stop what is so blatantly cruel and pointless.

Oh sure, then the rest of the world can jump on the band waggon and help them along killing all the whales until they become extinct, unbelievable that a country who has a huge preservation arena on one side of the road has boats on the other side going out killing whales, mindless murder and disgusting.
