think about how you are going to diaper the baby. You'll need a few diapers to get started -- you can get on a cloth program -- there are businesses out there that will pickup and deliver -- or you can purchase plastic.
Also, will you breastfeed? you may need a book and a pump. You also may want a few breastfeeding bras to get started. If not, you might want to read up on infant formulas. Even if you breastfeed, you may want a backup formula.
You'll want to pick out a baby doctor in your area so you're on top of that in case there are complications (there won't be -- but be prepared. .. you'll feel less stress.
Something cheap that I find VERY important, a side sleeper. This is cheap and props the baby on his side while sleeping -- this is how babies should sleep, not backs and bellies. They also say this helps with sids. I used mine every day. if you have cats that like to crawl in bed with you, get a tent for the crib.
Baby monitors are useful for large homes where the baby is not near the mother -- but watch -- they can be picked up on cell phones etc. -- people in the neighborhood can hear you talk. I've seen it happen.
something great to get your figure back -- jogging strollers -- they are built much tougher than the others and you can go off road. They are really worth the money.
good luck to you!! hope this helps.

Bottles, Bibs, Diapers,Receiving Blankets,Lotions, Powder,Soap,Clothes,Bath tub, booties/socks, hats, mittens, sleepers, Bedding's sets, Wipes, Diaper bag, First aid kit.

Just some things to put on your list

The stuff you ask for at your baby shower is stuff you have not pick up and you want for your baby, If you got all the big stuff then maybe you should ask for clothes and other small items. Congrats on the baby and I know what your going though with trying to buy everything, I am due Jan 16, 07 and I am almost finish buying everything. Good Luck

I recommend getting a baby carrier that you wear in front of you. The Baby Bjorn can be used from newborn and is very comfortable for you and baby. You should probably ask people not to give too many soft toys as these can easily become overwhelming, and most will be ignored. You could ask a grandparent to get a special bear or something, and ask everyone else for clothes. You'll get lots of newborn stuff but remember to ask for things that will fit from 3mos onwards - he'll soon grow and you'll want something to put him in. It never hurts to plan ahead, even with things like nice bowls and spoons - he'll be eating soon enough and better to have things ready than an enormous pile of too-small clothes. Other things: muslin squares, high chair, mobile for his crib. some newborn baby books (bright colours and pictures) some soft pictures for around the cot (again, they do these for newborns - outline faces, stark colours and shapes, etc).

Good luck - the best thing in your entire life is about to happen to you. Enjoy every minute.

First of all, congratulations on your pregnancy. I am also due in Feb with a boy. You can read in magazines, books, and on the internet all of things you need to get, but usually they suggest buying things you don't even need!! I would suggest taking mom with you when you register for your baby shower. No one knows better than mom about what things you'd need and what things you can live without. Ask her for suggestions and remember to ask yourself "Do i really need the Ralph Lauren diaper bag?" LOL. If you get just the basic needs, you'll save yourself time and space when your baby grows out them. Remember, the baby is due in the dead of winter so definately get some warm sleepers! Good Luck!!!

There are a million baby products out there and you won't need 99% of them. Once you have the major necessities covered, I'd suggest the following for your baby registry.

pjs - your best bet is the "sack" type for a couple of reasons. First you don't have to thread his little legs into pant legs. As a newborn, he's just going to keep them curled up anyway, let him be comfortable and not have a bunch of material in the crease of his knees. They also have the little mittens that you can fold over his hands to keep him from scratching himself. I'd suggest that you get eight to ten of these. Second, they last longer because you can buy a larger size and allow him to grow into them without him looking and feeling like he's drowning in material. Once he's bigger (about 6 months) you can put him in regular jams.

Onesies - You can never have too many of these. They will help keep him warm in the winter and once the summer months come, he can pretty much live in them.

Cute clothes - You really only need a couple of outfits for when he leaves the house to visit. Baby clothes are incredibly cute, but for the most part expensive and unnecessary. Most times they outgrow them before you've gotten close to getting your monies worth out of them. Chances are you'll receive these as a gift, but I wouldn't worry about buying them if you don't.

Socks - The most important thing to remember about socks is not to use ones that are too small. You want a loose fitting sock that's going to keep his feet warm. Ten or twelve pair should do the trick. Also, be careful when washing them, they are very small and have a tendency to get sucked into the washers pump. A trick I used was putting a bread tie through each of the ankles and putting them in the washer as a pair.

Receiving blankets - Think of these as an extension of the baby's jams. Newborns are used to being confined and wrapping them in a light weight receiving blanket comforts them. Not to mention they come in handy for a million things such as hanging over the stroller when the sun is low, tossing on a bed to protect the blankets when you change him, etc.

Age appropriate toys - Obviously at birth this will be limited to music boxes, mobiles and maybe something like a star projector. For the more expensive items, don't be shy about buying used. Most of these items are not "used up" until the fifth or sixth kid. As he gets older, remember that he doesn't need every toy made, just a few that he really enjoys. Check with a local day care center and see if the parents have set up a toy exchange where families swap toys. This gives you a chance to try out toys without shelling out large sums of money.

That will pretty much get you through the first year. Congratulations on your impending delivery and Good Luck!

Almost forgot - one more hint. You'll get lots of baby clothes and most of them will be newborn to 3 month sizes. DO NOT remove the tags and wash them until the baby is actually born. I made this mistake and ended up with a huge box of clothes that my son couldn't wear and I couldn't return. He was 10lbs, 2 oz and 24 1/2" long - he came home in nine months clothes. (For the record, he's now 18, 6'4" and 190 lbs.)

Ask for a massage voucher...or a hair dresser voucher...or even a paid visit to the chiropractor...

After the birth of your baby you are going to feel like an over emotional...roller coaster has taken over your life...take time out for you...look after and pamper yourself...lets face it...if mummys a mess and feeling low and down on herself how can she get though sleepless nights and still expect to feel like super mum in the morning?
Baby will be fine and I'm sure that friends and family will shower you with gifts...
Its not being selfish looking out for you...without you how happy will baby be?
Hope this helps

to procure some large concepts already yet I had too upload some issues. Recieving blankets-about 30 of them. Burp cloths are too small, i found them thoroughly ineffective. vehicle Seat comfy-you are able to get them at Sears or Wal-Mart for low priced. they are little fleece elastic covers that flow over the vehicle seat to guard infant from the chilly and the wind in the wintry climate. they have a touch portal for the face so that you'll raise it and verify on infant. espresso! Beleive you me...you'll want some severe JAVA the first couple months. solid success and Congrats!

While he will need warm clothing for February (assuming you are in the northern hemisphere here...) you might want to ask for cooler clothing for spring and summer in the next couple of sizes up! And there's no such thing as too many diapers... Congratulations.
