Connect it through the ignition circuit so when you turn the key to start the engine the fan will activate. Again, when you shut the vehicle off, the fan will turn off and not kill the battery.
Why not just fix it the right way? This way you won't interfere with the ECM logistics which will cause you more problems than you already have!

first off why would be more important,connecting a coolant fan direct will only take care of your driving below 35mph,most cars push more air through the radiater and condenser than any fan can provide above that speed.
the best way to make your fan run all the time is to find your fan relay and jumper the fan moter to the power supply at the point of the relay.usually most fan relays have five pins or spades.connect the one #30 to#87 this should make your fan run all the time when the key is on.this much better as to not having to get under the hood each time or having to remember to shut off a switch.
really you should find the sorce of your overheating issue,most fan moters are not made to run all the time.

Ignition hot and ground is all that is needed. A jumper wire where the cooling fan relay is or ground the cooling fan relay directly clipping the ECM wire not to back feed power into the engine computer. WHATS! missing is year make model and miles so Yamster Mechanics can be more specific.

Directly to the battery. But you'd better better use a fuse link and remember to disconnect each time you turn the car off.
