99% of the graffiti have nothing artistic in them. It's vandalism. And, art or not, no one should write/paint on other people's properties or on the public ones without permission. Why don't they "decorate" their own houses?

If its just sprayed here and there on walls I think its mindless vandalism, I don't get the point of the ones that just spray their initials on walls either, what is that about, we have a guy in our town who got sick of the graffiti artists so he got them together and had them spray all the walls in his warehouse and on walls outside his business, he has since set up a business for these kids and they now get paid by people and companies to do their art in places its appreciated and not on walls were it isn't, everyone thinks its a brilliant idea and good for the guy for thinking about it and stopping kids getting into trouble for their art, I personally think some of it is amazing and these kids that do it are wasted and should be in art college somewhere.

When someone 'tags' a wall - that's vandalism or when a person sprays graffiti on someone's wall - even if it's wonderful that's vandalism as well. Graffiti sprayed on a wall that is specifically for that purpose, then that is art.

I read in the papers about a week or so ago that a construction company knocked down a wall somewhere which was covered in graffiti by one 'artist'. It turns out that he is now a recognised artist and the wall was now worth in excess of £100,000!

I guess it depends on whether the graffiti is on your house wall or not.

it depends. sometimes its a wonderful thing full of creative and artistic invention, but at other times, its just derogatory and in bad taste when it comes to offensive language and swear words appearing on walls, tube stations etc. in those terms, that isn't considered art but vandalism, as well as it is distasteful. but otherwise, most graffiti looks amazing and inspiring.

Art. I love it. I take pictures of the trains that pass through my city sometimes. The art is remarkable, new and fresh. No idea what some of it means, but the graffiti is definately art to me.

It's art, definitely. However, that doesn't mean that graffiti artists should be allowed to perform their craft on private property owned by others.

Mindless vandalism, no one likes looking at that crap. (<---Unless it's a really nice picture and it's not done on private property.)

(As far as tagging goes though) They mine as well have pissed on the wall, their just marking territory that's not theirs.

If everyone was as good as Banksy it would be all right, but there are too many kids just writing their names or whatever.
