Not all the time. The lion may get lucky and win once in a while but the odds are stacked against it. Tigers are the largest of the big cats. They are stronger and more muscular. There are accounts of a tiger swinging at a lion and breaking its ribs. The lion's mane would not play that much of a role in the fight because the tiger would use its claws to defend itself. It attacks the neck of prey items, not in self defense cases. There are many videos on the internet of documented fights between lions and tigers and 9 times out of 10 the tiger walked away alive.

Well, the lion has a mane to protect its neck so it is less likely to lose if the tiger strikes at it's neck area. However, tigers are larger and do the hunting for prey (lionesses hunt) so the tiger might be more experienced in fighting.
So it is a equal chance of winning or losing for the lion depending on the day.

Lion is King of the Jungle. Of course, he would not just win but also triumph in any such tedious fight with Tiger. A clench of the majesterial paw and Tiger will have seen better days, before he decided to challenge Lion's authority.

Between a male lion and a male tiger, the male lion would have an advantage because its mane protects its throat. A female tiger would easily take out a femal lion.

Take note!! I keep answering this same question and the answer remains the same. In all documented battles ( must be held in some form of captivity, of course ) between lions and tigers; the tiger has always won. This is up to date and includes fights in which one cat broke and ran from the other. Pass the word around.

PS To prove me wrong; show me the documation.

We all know lions are lazy but when his territory is threat they can be really ferocious. In other hand, tigers are no lazy but are also ferocious. Considering they are in a neutral environment and we have two animals healthy and the same age, I thing lions could win the fight mainly because their neck his more protected than tigers.

The lion would win every time....so they are simply so much stronger and bigger.....I don't think a Tiger would go anywhere near one if it had any sense.....and nor would I!

The Lion would of course have to catch the tiger....and that might be a different story of who would win the race.....

They do a show on Discovery Channel. They put all the details into a computer and simulate a fight. On this occasion the Male African Lion won against the Male Siberian Tiger.
The show is called Animal Face-Off. They have just had a Nile crocodile against a shark.

Depends on the species. A Siberian Tiger vs an Asian Lion - the tiger would win hands down (or paws down) Of course, it would never happen, as they live in different parts of the world.
