Of course they could. The season is young, and the playoffs are months away.

Only time will tell but the trend in Philly is, the flyers go through coaches like normal people go through their routine of putting the trash can out on trash night. Were Clarke and Hitchcock really all that good? Well personally I don't think so, Clarke is a has been that has been hanging on to something that's not there for far too long and the players quit on Hitchcock. As soon as the players stop buying into the coaches system its time to make a personnel change, because your going no where fast with that approach. Hitchcock is not the first coach they have gone through in the not so distant past. It seems like its a continuous trend in Philly and they really are not talented enough to be having all these issues. There is more than enough time to turn it around if they can get everyone on the same page, but doing that will be easier said then done and when they finally do, its very possible it might be to late to get themselves into a position going into the playoffs where they can actually advance.

Yes they definately can. I am a new hockey fan, but I have done my research and asked questions. I believe it's a good thing that they fired Hithcock and Clarke resigned. I agree that Clarke was too "Old School" for the Flyers.
I believe a couple of people said they are lacking leadership. I agree with that. Every time I watched a Flyers game never once did I see the coach smile when the scored. No pat on the back, he was never excited. I never saw any effort to give words of motivation when they weren't doing well. He just looked like a grumpy selfish ....
You should take a look at the Hurricanes' coach and his reactions when they played and compare them to Hithcock's.
Hopefully this John Stevens guy will bring them the motivation they need and the inspriation of playing for some one they love.
They do have a great team. I think they're just having trouble getting their chemistry together, but they will.

I'm not sure if they will turn it around this season, but getting rid of Clarke is definitely a step in the right direction.

Like another answerer said, Clarke is a relic of the old NHL. He's made no attempt to refashion the Flyers after the rule changes of a couple years ago, and his reluctance to do so is now costing them.

I think Hitchcock is still worthy of coaching in the NHL, but it was probably a good idea to make wholesale changes at this point. It looked like the team had lost confidence in themselves and the coaching staff, and that's tough to get back once it's gone.

I can see them reaching 50 to 60 points at best, and possibly making the playoffs. But personally, unless Snider steps down, it's gonna be the same old Flyers. Get our hopes up all season and fold in the playoffs to a team that has adapted to the new NHL. It hurts to say that because the Flyers are my favorite team on the planet.

It depends what you mean turn around. Make the playoffs, sure its still early and yes they COULD make the playoffs. If you mean be a serious contender or someone who is feared come playoff time, no. They are in too much disarray to and there since the new CBA there hasnt been much movement at the trade deadline. So they most likely wont get much help there. They are also just too many question marks about the team. They might make the playoffs but need to much work to be a serious threat.

Unfortunately Clarke comes from an era when hockey was a Man's game and that doesn't work in today's game . Now the question is who's available and with regards to the cap, at what price? Not so easy to buy yourself out of trouble these days ...

Yes, they can.

It's early in the season... they're going through growing pains, they have the talent, they have the heart, I'm not surt if they have the leadership..... but (contrary to popular opinion) the FLyers can, and will, start winning again.... and I am looking forward to all of you bandwagon-hoppers swallowing your words..... / I liked you all better when you were jealous.

Philadelphia is the best city in the world and the Flyers are the best team in NHL....

Soon we will prove it.

Watch!
And learn what heart, soul, glory and guts is all about!

Go Flyers!!!

Clarke is and has always been the problem, he'd trade away the prospects for washed up players and then sign those prospects again when they are past thier prime. I say anyone would be better then Clarke.

It's still early in the season so they got plenty of time. They need to get a good starting goalie. They need to improve the defence, and Forsberg with Gagne have to step up big.
