Not being from NC, but knowing there was a U.S. Mint in Charlotte that minted only gold coins, then there must still be some left in, as some one said, them there hills. The Bechtlers of Rutherford County N.C. minted their own gold coins. in 1831 they made the first gold dollar in the United States. The U.S. Mint did not make dollars until 1849. Also it looks like there was gold in the Piedmont region. The above areas and Georgia were the principle sources of the nations gold supply from 1790 to 1848, when gold was found in California. Good luck.

Remember the tiny "silver dollar" issued by the Mint in the 1980's. They save money by issuing dollars that don't wear out like dollar bills do. But the silver dollar was exactly the same size as a quarter. Cashiers had no place to put them in the money tray. A big mess. Then there was talk that making the coin a different color would make it popular. That didnt work. People who felt in their pocket couldn't tell the difference. Blind people had trouble with it. I think that your N.C. quarter might be a decorative coin. But it's illegal to put "25 Cents" on anything that looks like a coin unless it's worth that much. So maybe she has a real quarter. But why doesn't the rest of the world know about this coin. Your wife will be famous if she is arrested by the US Secret Service for passing fake coins and when we see her on tv we will think about your Answers question.

Yeah, I would just go to any metropolitan areas and find the neighborhoods with mansions. The other option is too follow fancy new cars home. I am sure there will be gold in these houses.
