No. If smoking kills the inventor should not be punished.
First off, the inventor is undoubtedly dead by now and even if he (or she) were alive, it'd be difficult to identify precisely who invented it and who perpetuated the habit.
"Tobacco smoking with pipes and cigars was common to many Native American cultures prior to the arrival of European explorers. The practice is depicted in early Mayan art dating back to around 1,500 years ago. The Mayans were also known to use tobacco as an all-purpose medicinal antidote, and the crop was widely believed to possess magical powers as its usage has been documented in ancient ceremonial sacrifices and divinations as well as in talismans.
"On October 12, 1492, Christopher Columbus was given dry leaves by the Arawaks, but threw them away. Rodrigo de Jerez and Luis de Torres were the first Europeans to observe smoking, and Jerez became the first recorded smoker outside the Americas. Throughout the 16th century, the habit of smoking was common mainly among sailors. Tobacco was introduced to England in the 1560s by the crew of Sir John Hawkins but did not begin making an impact on European society until the 1580s. The cigar became immensely popular in England during the late 1820s. In 1828, the cigarette appeared in Spain and enjoyed immediate success but still remained less popular than both the cigar and pipe until the early 20th century when cheap mechanically manufactured cigarettes became standard."

That way you will have whole list of people who need to be punished! The inventor of the sword, the inventor of the antibiotics, ...... many things.
I am not an advocate of smoking. I am only against excessiveness in anything. A glass of beer or a pitcher? I would rather that you start from the top rather than from the bottom. start with the inventor of atom bomb , them come down to AK47 rifles and things like that.

Well, you are correct that smoking can cause serious health hazards, and eventually kill you! But smoking is something that people choose to do, therefore, no one should be punished but themselves. And yes, the inventor of tobacco smoking, probably didn't consider the health hazards, back in the hay day. Smokers decide to smoke, and are aware of the problems, so its their own fault and no one else's. Nobody put a cigarette to their mouth and made them smoke!

It does not kill unfortunately. It just hastens death !
If one cigarette were enough to kill, nobody would ever smoke, and the inventor or manufacturer would have been out of business !
There have been people who lived a full span of life , yet never gave up smoking...
True it is injurious to health, but not fatal... there is a long list of such things, and very difficult to ask people to avoid it. The pleasure it gives is too good. Each has to decide for himself the limits !

Smoking has been around for so long who knows who dried the first tobacco plant and smoked it!
As far as punishment, those who started smoking before they knew it was bad are getting settlements from major corporations like Phillip Morris.
As far as smoking goes now, I am a smoker, have been for over 20 years, it is MY choice to smoke, and to continue to do so..I am p*ssed to find out there are other additives in the cigarettes that make them more addictive, and deadly than tobacco, but yet I do continue to smoke-so the fault is my own!

Smoking is a choice, and anyone with a pulse is aware of the possible health issues involved by now. BUT--at some point, people really have to take responsibility for their own actions, AND the government has to step back from legislating common sense.
What's next? Look at all this nonsense about limiting fats in four star restaurants. Should we outlaw cigars?
Martinis? How about a law against staying up past 10 PM? That's probably bad for me, to get too little sleep.
It's a slippery slope when laws are needed to "protect" me from excess in every experience of life. I'd rather make those choices myself, thanks.

Have you ever wondered why cigarette smoking kills only SOME but not all smokers? It's the individual's problem, not the inventor's problem. Hey, just like the invention of a knife, you can either use it to slice cheese, or slice up your neighbour. I rest my case.

I'd rather say the inventor's but since they are dead a very long time ago no way.How about alcohol a.s.o. It's up to every individual to smoke, drink or live unhealthy (also too much fat food - ask the Mc Do' brothers, lol) Ups sorry too late again...You can only "Punish" yourself since everybody is free to consume whatever they want.

Humans have been using the tobacco plant, including "cigarettes" for CENTURIES
So yeah, I'm sure there is some Native American we can blame and "punish"
But shouldn't you also ask, if obscene obesity kills, shouldn't we punish McDonalds? Krispy Kreme? Captain Crunch?
