Surely, there is a way that Americans can vote on issues, and truly run this country by what "Americans" want collectively, and not what a senator wants because they got money from a big company. We can have voting machines like ATM's, we wouldn't have to pay high salaries for congree and the senate. Also,Why have the electoral college at all when we can one day just vote for presidency in our living rooms? Points to ponder.

Reasoning thoughts:
The house of representatives could be disposed of on state and federal levels. These are based on representiative number of people so they would not be needed. the electoral college could be disposed of- direct election of the president would be much better.

Senate and the president should take office in December, to long of a wait between election and taking office.

Campaigning for office should be limited to a two month window or less, start in Sept or OCT, end in Nov
This will eliminate the high cost of campaigns and allow the common person a chance at election!

Laws would no longer be written in legalese and the pork would come to an end
Bad Bills could not be hidden behind Good ones, laws would be two or three pages not 1200 to 1500

Debate could be done in forums, no extra time or cost. The people would be more knowledgeable of what they were voting on then representatives presently are!

I've pondered and keeping thing the way they are is the prudent thing to do. The electoral college needs to stay for this nations sake. How many American truly understand the real issues that get voted on. You've seen it in here yourself. People rant on about something and they are completely way off base and have not an inkling as to the real issues at hand. If we went to the popular vote on every issue, there would still be slavery, Gay's would have no rights and the lists goes on and on.

That would be Democracy in it's Purest form but it would be Anarchy and mob rule!

I am proud that the United States is a Republic and I think it was a mistake to change the Constitution in the ways we did to directly elect so many leaders.

Originally State Representatives were supposed to pick the Senators (your state senator or governor would appoint your state senator)

That would be disastrous. There would be no debate or informed voting on issues. Congress can't even see te impact of some decisions on other areas when they pass a law. I can't imagine any way that the general population would be able to keep a semblance of order in the law.

Good grief no, I don't even want to think how many immature people will vote for whatever is of benefit for them and in the end bring down their country because even a country needs proper funding to get things done.

One thing though: Voting for presidency should be done by the citizen, I completely agree with you here. Lots of democratic countries vote their presidents directly through the people instead of a third party.

I think it is possible but some areas like what will happen if people like now do not vote on very crucial issues and how to control daily bu sines of Govt and who will be the authorities like in present setup. Many like you would be thinking upon such proposal/alternatives and sooner of later the answers to many question will be known and system will definitely be changed.

Don't even bother voting. Presidents and issues are decided on by THIS secret and evil group that's been in control of everything for far too long!...

Not a good idea, we call that mob rule we would have a lot of laws based on feelings rather than thoughful debate.

what an interesting thought. What would the Republicans do with themselves? It is certainly something that should be explored and hopefully might happen in the future.
