Well, it all depends on the circumstances of you losing your job that depends on what you're entitled to. If you're being made redundant then depending on the amount of time you've been with your employer you will be entitled to some amount of monies. I think it's roughly £25-£50 for every 6 months you've been there. If you've been fired for whatever then tough, you wont see a penny. You should be entitled to housing benefit but that may depend again on your circumstances so check that. Could you not just get a part time job soemwhere like Tesco til after xmas? You could always change your hours afterwards and work the evenings, plus no-one expects you stay at Tesco for ever! Maybe you should also chat to your landlord and mention your situation to them, they maybe more sympathetic than you think.

If you are still up a certain creek without a paddle then get in touch. I will show you (for free and without obligation) how you can turn the spare time you have now into extra money short term or long term.

Good luck,

If you live in the US, and have held a job for more than one year, you may be entitled to Unemployment Compensation, unless you were fired for cause.

In any case go to the State Employment Service in you town and discuss your situation with a representative.

Does your lease agreement state you have to have a full time job, or just that you must continue to be financial liable for the cost of rent, etc?

If only you remain liable for cost of living there, then no sweat. Otherwise, you might need to begin packing.
