If you fasten a sign to street furniture (benchs, lightposts etc) then it is illegal. You can receive £2k fines for doing that, so its cheaper to get someone to hold a sign all day I guess.

Don't forgot there are many tourists in London, especially American who love playing golf. Perfect advertising if you ask me. Beats paying £20k+ for an advert in the Yellow Pages that nobody would see. If you were an American tourist with a Golf fettish and a sign pointed you to your heaven, would you not go???

Its a job but a mind numbingly boring one. I don't get why there would be golf shops in the middle of London -especially as land is a premium, and you are not going to carry clubs around the middle of London. And it is so expensive to play down there that they would buy from the golf shop or on line anyhow.
