Having pinetar on the ball makes it spin differently by adding a small amount of weight to one side of the ball. If the "material on the hand of the detroit pitcher was insignifigant, then why the rush to clean it off when suspicion was raised.

Listen... Tony La Russa (coach of the Cardinals) has been known for cheating, and so has St. Louis. Mark McGwire took steroids to win the crown as the Home Run King (but was recently beaten by another cheater/steroid user), so St. Louis fans, Kenny Rogers is no more guilty than your former teammates are... At least he had the brains to wash it off, and pitch 7 more dominating innings in which he only allowed 1 hit... Jose Canseco, on the Oakland A's, was another Steroid user... The relevance that this has is that Tony La Russa was the coach of this team when Canseco was busted.

I am getting sick of hearing that Rogers was cheating last night!! After he washed his hand off, the Cardinal's batters still couldn't touch him!! THE COURTROOM OF BASEBALL IS A LOAD OF HORESHIT!!!!!!!! Sosa, McGuire, and Palammo all did steroids over the majority of their career, and have been assumed innocent until proved guilty, and then slapped on their wrists after they were proved so. Rogers has a little dirt on his hand, and he is considered to be a cheat!!!!!!! You must be some 60 year old Cardinals fan who still has sour grapes about the '68 World Series, when the Tigers were the first team to come back to win, after being down 3-1.

Its simple, to not get caught. 60 to 70 percent of pitchers use pine tar/foreign substance on their hand at least once in the season or their career. The only reason this is brought up because its the World Series. If this was a a game in the middle of the season, we wouldnt be hearing all this about cheating. Also, after he washed his hands, your telling me he didnt pitch awesome?? He did, he still got the same break on his ball to strike out 5 or 6 and to make hitters look silly. He has the greatest modern era scoreless streak with 23 innings and guess what?? You dont do that without some skill especially against one of the greatest lineups ever assembled in the Yankess. Btw, they can and WILL win and the Tigers didnt cheat, Kenny cheated IF anything, how about you get it RIGHT.

Hey why dont you mention the fact that he used pinetar for an inning. Umm that left 7 more innings to do something while he had absolutely nothing on his hand for sure, and the Cards couldnt even get as many hits off Kenny as the Tigers got runs...get a clue moron.

Baseball is the ultimate team game, one person can not cheat and get you into the world series, it takes the entire team. Think about it, in basketball when the game is on the line get it to your best player, same thing in football and hockey and most other sports that are played. However in baseball it is nice to have the Barry Bonds and Derek Jeter's but if it is not their turn to hit then they don't matter.

Kenny Rogers has been in some weird spotlights the past couple years...pushing the cameraman...acting weird after beating the yankees and now this? Just a little pine tar makes a difference and for anyone to think otherwise is a fool...have you ever had pine tar on your hands? Even if you wipe it off there is still enough residue to make a difference.

Maybe Kenny Rogers wanted to minimize the amount of whining that Cardinal fans were able to do. He seemed to pitch fine without whatever was on his hand for the next 7+ innings. Maybe you should just admit that the Tigers have played great team baseball in the playoffs.
