Songs of the South is the book. Brer Rabbit and Brer Bear and Brer Fox were the characters and were often seen fighting with each other and the rabbit was always outwitting the fox and the bear. Cute stories. Have at least three in my memory and can tell them on long car rides (Used to tell them to my youngest sister all the time). Disney also made a movie out of these stories.
