I don't think it is ethical. The poor man didn't understand the contract he was signing because of all the governmental terms. I think he was just trying to help his son to get food and shelter but not permanently. He put the child in the orphanage to have it breast fed because the mom died, he is obviously very poor and was just trying to do the best he knew and he isn't getting the advice he needs.

As far as I know the child was in an orphange, so the father obviously couldnt look after him. I am sure there are a lot of ethical questions, but considering the country involved, millions of children die each year because of malnutrition. This young african child would have run the risk of dying at an early age anyway. Madonna's money will probably save a lot more young children and adults from a starving to death. So while there may be ethical questions, you really have to ask yourself....is allowing Madonna to adopt an african child and being able to save hundreds maybe thousands more children because of this adoption, is that ethical? I think the bigger picture far outweighs the ethical question of whether Madonna should be allowed to adopt an african child. She is in fact saving hundreds of lives and I think that is why the Government has allowed the adoption. They were looking at the bigger picture as well.

People adopt children of parents that alive and well every day. It isn't unethical what is unethical is the way they tried to rush the adoption thru for the sake of a superstar. However I think the father is lying when he said that he didn't understand and that maybe he is now having second thoughts. He should man up and admit that he made the wrong decision. Madonna should return the child and try again and this time through the proper channels

I happen to come from this country but live abroad. I was in the country during the same period. The feelings of the people in Malawi, to a greater extent, are not against the adoption except the Human Rights Activists who think it is against the law for international adoption.according to Malawi laws. (It depends now on which lawyer you ask. )

In a radio phone in programme 36 out of 43 people were for the adoption.

Yes the father is alive (which might sound unethical to take his kid) but he had no means to keep the small baby. Now Madonna will help the father out..we hear the kid will be coming after some years to see his country.

This little poor child is regarded to have helped sell our country which is not so well known out there. Government expets more aid, donations , incomes and bla bla from this escapade

The father put the baby in an orphanage. Obviously he can't take care of the baby. Madonna will be able to give the kid a much better life. More people should help out needy kids.

Yes it is...He gave up his son right after the mother died. The child has been in the orphanage all this time. If the father did not understand the meaning of adoption he would have not given him up in the first place.

Yes as she can provide for the child food, shelter, education and love like all mothers do.

if the father can't take care of it, like he has already said he can't, then i see no problem with her giving this child a better life.

Yeah why not? She didn't kidnap the kid or anything. Besides, if the family's poor then she's just giving the kid a better future.
