1) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.
2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
3) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behaviour. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.
4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.
5) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britney Spears's 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.
6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.
7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.
9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.
10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

I am reposting due to the fact no-one read it. Also people wouldn't answer because they saw the heading and ignored.

They're all good reasons. You've certainly convinced me. Strange how different they are from the reasons that marriage in general is wrong, eh?

i think that's the biggest list of crap ive ever seen. Why just because "straight" marriage has been around a long time does it make gay marriage wrong? and what makes something un normal? what is there to say that something is not normal because its not happened for a few years well let me tell you it has. Being gay is not just a new fad its been around fro decades its just not been as open and as widely covered as it is not fair because people though it was wrong but surely love is love? And i can assure you that some males can bring up children just like females can its all about the bonding and the social interaction that goes on not whether your a man or woman and just because its 2 gay men together doesn't mean that the child will become gay that's a load of bull really its what the child sees is right and how they feel eg the child might not go from adoption loving other females to going into a gay relationship and think o right yer my parents are gay so that means i am, if they discuss it then its up to the child surely? and WTF is going on with number 6!!! that's crazy Absolutely crazy many straight marriages don't produce children because not everyone is fertile but then why does that mean its wrong? what happens if an infertile couple have been married for 20 years never had sex while trying for children and then all of a sudden find they are infertile? oops sorry my darling im infertile so we are wrong to be together here a divorce slip while you go and find a man you can have children with its wrong all wrong and some people need to grow up and face that facts

Brilliant; I haven't seen it before.
Shame there are so many people who either don't take the trouble to read things properly, don't have the brains to understand sarcasm, or completely lack a sense of humour. But I love the fact that it's subtle enough to fool some of the homophobes, too.

My opinion is that is all rests on #8, and that all the other "reasons" are simply what the neocons/religious right consider "validations". I would argue against the institution of marriage alltogether. It is as outmoded as the cart and buggy. In a truly equal society, it is unnecessary.
It is pervasive in this society, due to the influence of fiction/literature directed at the youngest and most impressionable in the population. Cinderella, Snow White, 99+% of movies all have the happy ending/girl gets the guy outcome, which is so unrealistic as to set people up for failure. They thoroughly buy into the concept that once you "got him" you don't have to do another thing in order to keep "him". Every bit as unrealistic as some caucasian bearded guy sitting in the clouds, like a movie director. Apparently humans are happier in fantasy than in reality.

I have seen this before. My response to when people ask me about my stance on "gay marriage", is that every one regardless of sexuality should have the same rights to choose marriage or unions. It is a matter of human rights, not simple a matter for "gay people to obtain the right to marry".
There is also a rather sarcastic reply to this post " "IF YOU GIVE HOMOSEXUALS RIGHTS, THEN EVERYONE ELSE WILL WANT THEM TOO."

Harsh.... isn't it when your whole category of supporters is so busy defending themselves against percieved "bashers" they overlook the fact one of their very own may, just may, be "out there" enough to crack a joke! Good onya....... I got a laugh!

Without getting involved in the debate on whether it should be legal or not (I have an opinion but choose not to share it)...
These are quite funny, and I'm sure everyone can appreciate their irony. Good work!

You'll always get the homophobes and haters...that's because they have no idea how to laugh and just enjoy life...they are too totally self absorbed with their superiority....I'm a gay male and I thought your article was great...made me laugh...mostly because its true.......I'm also Canadian and legally married here...and I really don't think that my marriage has torn a hole in the moral fabric of society...maybe america's fabric isn't quite as strong..I dunno.

I actually read this a while ago, from a gay friend of mine (she lives in the UK, where they're a lot more lax about it), and I thought it was hilarious (I'm straight, but I am 100% supportive of gay rights).
