India is a large country - the area you are going to will affect the clothing and money etc... I am in South East India right now - it is hot, but cooling off - to somewhere in the 90s! LOL! It is 45 Rupees to $1 US Dollar right now, and say, a can of coke is 25 Rupees - that would be about $.55 I think? Wait, bad example. That is similar to the States - let me put it this way, things are much cheaper here. Need more info to really know how to help you!

Depends entirely on where all you are planning to go. North India will be quite cold so you will need woolys. South & West India ( Kerela and Goa ) will be nice and warm.Money also depends on how you are planning your trip. Check out Lonely Planets Guide and you will get an idea of the different pricing options on Hotels and backpacking.I would recommend Rajasthan,Goa and Kerela since you have a month. If you are planning for this Jan ( 2007 ) then I suggest you do your bookings immediately as its peak season at that time.

hey... i'm an 18 yr old from india. living on the west coast. jan in india is winter, but not really cold. if yr heading towards nothern india, u have to carry yr winter wear. u can visit the capital, delhi, but be careful, it ain't really safe for girls beyond 19.00 hrs. jammu and kashmir is the indian switzerland. u'll love it.
in east, there's kolkatta u can go to. its ok. nothin really worth watching. has a reputation of being one of the dirtiest cities in india. but the people are very friendly and that goes for all indians.
south india is like the hub of all the beautiful hindu temples. some delicious food. must visit kerala for its splendid massages. hyderabad for its cuisine and bangalore for its hi tech fascination.
and now to my favorite part of india, the west coast.
here u must come to mumbai, the entertainment and commercial capital of india. its a grt city and u;ll have lots to do here. carry light clothes. wear comfortable shoes. wear sun screen the whole time. and try to get used to the traffic and the cuisine. don't be too scared of tryin out food. its not as bad as people make it sound.
so njoy yr trip!!!
must visit- udaipur, jaipur, mumbai, goa, hyderabad, bangalore

carry woollens with u in jan, winters r very cold in north india. visit himachal pradesh ( shimla, dharamshala, manali). In south india u can visit goa. u should also visit rajasthan, the desert area of india. Avoid going to central & east india.
Don't stay at cheap lounges for they are uncomfortable.
Enjoy ur tour.
