This is a tax problem surely, if there is really THAT much money in Football, should the Clubs not be taxed at 70%+ to fund hospitals, fire brigade, police (especially police) etc etc.
It is a market economy and if watching football was to cost £1000, people would still go, so why not make use of this for the Country!
The National lottery and other forms of 'public entertainment give money to good causes, why not Football.
The money really needs to be taken out of it, it is ruining the game, our long standing clubs and will eventually be the Death of Football............especially in the U.K.
Any body else find it funny that last world cup England fielding a side that was paid more than a small country.....AND STILL COULDN'T WIN!!!!!! So does money help football? I doubt it!

Because the fans are willing to pay. Football fans are perhaps the most gullible consumers on earth, paying exorbitant fees to watch games and purchase worthless merchandise. At the same time they ruin the game they puport to love by turning their stars into a bunch of big girls blouses more concerned about protecting their looks for adverts or terrified of missing a match through injury. The beautiful game has degenerated into an horrific theatrical event instead of a competition of athletic prowess and skill.

ok they train 3 times a week for a few hours, eat healthily aparently dont drink or take drugs, have to appear on tv wow thats so hard all those fans and women wanting your bod.
There isnt any justice your absolutely right! hense i will not pay to watch a match anymore or pay for payperview or buy another shirt etc etc... my team charge £44 a ticket and somethign liek 22 for a kid, i go with my 2 kids thats £88 plus your burgers travelling your talking £100 just to watch a 90 minute game! anmd being a westham supporter, at the moment i wouldnt go for free! if we halved their wages they would still play! and i would start going to watch again. I used to like david beckham, few other icons as i thought they were good role models. not any more, just feel they are in it purely for the money and who pays? we do well i dont anymore but supporters do! good question

Football is not just a game. It has also become a national pride. Footballers are not just kicking the ball, they are celebrities who make a huge impact on the society and the people. So I think they have immense pressure to deal with when it comes to big events like world cup. They are carrying the pride of their countries in the events like these. And also the game itself has turned professional and too much investment into it, so naturally they can get paid more.

Maybe it's not fair, but it's the market. In an open market the price is determined by the point where demand match offer, so they will get their high salaries as long as there is someone available to pay them!

Why don't you be a footballer, try it!
Well they are paid for advertisement for their country I think, like Brazil, it is a quite poor country but the team is the strongest, so now lots of people visit Brazil. Britain is already nice and their team is also strong.
So it is a business matter as you can see, they are paid to play AND bring advertisment for their country...That's my silly point of veiw.

If your talking about the "European football"(aka soccer) - go soak your head!Sorry about that -but Football(soccer) is probably the best game there is. Not just me but there are about a million others who would agree with me. This proves that football is a really popular sport entertaining mil. of people all round the world. If thats not enough here's another reason- you try playing the game when your'e on national TV. these footballers are'nt just players they are artistes. Face it- these guys deserve what they're earning.

If you were good at your job, companies will offer you more and more money so that you will work for them.
Football is a high profit earning game so there is a lot of money on offer.
A football player can only play for about 10 years so they earn their lifes money during that time

i think they should knock a few zeros off their pay checks and then it would be more appropraite.
they should also have a reduced salary when they do not play for whatever reason. give them a decent bonus for goals scored? keeping a clean sheet but still keep the amounts sensible
