sounds to me like he was looking for an excuse to leave......whatever in due time you will find out the real reason he left and no it is not because he thought you was mad at him.

U have to analyse whether u were mad at him or not. If yes, why? It was justified or not.

THERE WERE OTHER ISSUES UNDERLYING THAT IF HE JUST UP AND LEFT....IT WOULDNT BE JUST BECAUSE HE THOUGHT YOU WERE MAD AT HIM. THERE IS SOMETHING ELSE TO THAT STORY
