Most fish will go crazy over cucumber which is cheap and easy, but you need to feed them their fish food as it contains the vital proteins and goodness which they would usually get in the wild. Try going to your local aquarium and see if you can purchase their own pre-packed gold fish flake, as it's usually cheaper to buy bulk and the store's own brand, but do not deprive them of the prober food, if the cost of keeping them is causing a problem, maybe it might be easier to re-home your fish. Fish only need to be fed once in every two days (although mine are fed every day) it really depends on how much you feed your fish, it will also help stretch out the cost of food. I hope you can sort a cheap effective way to look after your fish.

Goldfish almost eat ANYTHING. I feed mine boiled chicken, eggs, all kinds of different foods tho not grass. Tho I feed them that once or twice a week and remove the excess. But I don't think feeding them only grass would cut it for their nutritional needs. Goldfish food is a balanced Vitamin A to Zinc for a fish's diet. It's hard to think that all the fish needs are in those flakes. I know I wouldn't want to cheat my fish out of a full and well fed life.

The thing is, plainly, no. Some fish can eat underwater plants, but grass, being a land based plant would not be suitable for a fish!
And I hate to say it, but if you cant look after it properly, then maybe you should re-home it. After all it is a living creature, the same as you are, and deserves to be treated properly.

Although goldfish are opportunistic and will eat almost anything, they are just like us in that they need a complete and varied diet to get the right mix of carbs, proteins, vitamins and minerals that they need to survive. They will die if you feed them grass. Goldfish pellets or flake are very cheap and provide a good diet. If you can't afford to feed your fish then please try and find them a home with someone who can. I know its "just a fish" but you wouldn't try to feed a dog or a cat on grass would you......

No, grass will kill your goldfish.
We've got a big pond and i haven't noticed the fish eating grass. Maybe they are afraid of being stepped on by the cows.
Fish will eat vegetation, correct. But they don't eat grass, they tend to grub around for decayed foliage.
If you are sick of buying it food, perhaps you should get rid of it and put yourself on a pet-offenders register so you don't have any other pets, it seems you are not responsible enough.

Al;though Goldfish are related to Grass Carp, unfortunately,Goldfish, do not eat grass like their cousins,Grass Carp!! If you do not feed them food, they will eat what food is available in the pond/tank, then will starve to death! You can feed goldfish frozen peas, lettuce, corn, they love live plants from the pet store or freezed dried shrimp.

no you can't feed them grass, you can get a small tub at food in your local supermarket if you can't be bothered to feed them properly then find someone else who will.
you can feed them a small piece of cucumber but it turns the water toxic as they only pick a little of it at a time.
