Haves and have nots

Only Chelsea, Liverpool, Man U and maybe Arsenal are financially solvent- the rest of the clubs overspend to try and compete.

And comparitively speaking: NFL teams operate out of much bigger population centres than Premier league teams.

London has 6 teams, and towns like Reading and Wigan have their own teams so there isn't the same potential for mass popular support and therefore $$

The single biggest difference between the EPL and NFL is that the NFL has revenue sharing. Simply put, this means that the large-market teams (from New York, Phila, Chicago, etc) can't keep all of the money for themselves. The money gets parceled out to the smaller clubs (like Green Bay, Buffalo, or Pittsburgh) to keep the league balanced and competitive. The EPL is too capitalist for its own good!

Yes, England and America are superpowers, but even further than nuclear armament, America controls the World Wide Media, and as long as it does, NFL and NBA will make more money than Soccer. As well, American Citizens control the vast majority of the world's economy as consumers. Americans, for the most part, have no interest in soccer. We like Football. If soccer is to thrive, it has to sell itself to American Citizens to get them to spend their money on it.
