I recycle cans, plastic and paper through my local council bin collection. I have a box for glass that I take to the recycling place myself, and I have a compost bin for kitchen scraps and my dogs eat leftover cooked food. Wow, I am so green!!!!!

We recycle a little here and there, but it really isn't a huge concern. Scientists and politicians have created a huge scare about how our environment is becoming so polluted.
Don't get me wrong I agree that we need to watch how wasteful we are but huge corporations need to take the lead on creating less toxic waste.
Another thing scientists never really told everyone is that when Mt. St. Helens erupted it produced more pollutants in the air than all the pollutants man has ever put there.
Our world is pretty durable. It has lasted this long, I'm sure it can last a little more. Too many people are scared about the information they are given by politicians and scientists. Remember what their motives are and come to your own conclusion.

I'm with Sarah Roo. I recycle everything I can but it drives me mad that we can't recycle plastic packaging and juice cartons. I lived in Austria for many years and just about everything except for animal bones could be recycled. The bin men came once a month and we never had a problem with overflowing bins. The facilities provided by local councils in the UK need to be greatly improved and the public needs to be persuaded to recycle. Why does our government have to threaten us to do things?

At home we reuse our plastic bags, reuse glass jars for jam or pickled onion making, recycle glass bottles and paper and have a composter for all out vegetable peelings and things like that. We ould probably do more, but we're not doing too badly at the moment I think.

We have to recycle here in Ireland. I live in Cork and the council here are strict on it.
1) We pay a yearly fee of €280 for the refuse service.
2) We have to pay for a €5 bin tag every 2 weeks for the normal non recycle bin to be collected.
3) We are provided with large clear plastic bags to put all of our paper, plastics and tins in to be collected the other 2 weeks of the month, this is free so works as an incentive to try to recycle as much as possible.
4) You have to pay 15c for every plastic bag you ask for in a shop. Most people pay €1 for a large strong bag so they can reuse it all time to save paying 15c for every shopping bag.
5) All clothes and shoe shops etc now put all bought items in paper bags ( we now look really rich with our shopping as the bags are the same as in the movies ). I believe they are no longer allowed to use plastic bags, supermarkets can use plastic bags but we have to pay for them.
That's all I can think of right now, but I believe Ireland is doing it's part but can still improve. I also believe there were some Chinese delegates here before looking into our plastic bag rules as they were looking to clear up the mess of all of their plastic bags cluttering up everywhere.
I have had friends come over from the UK who love the idea of getting their goods in posh looking shopping bags instead of plastic.
Sorry to go on and on but I believe Ireland has made an effort to help with the environment and some of these ideas could work in the UK also.

Yes, i recycle glass, plastic, cardboard, paper, plastic bags. and i have a composter in my garden, i think it's great as you definately notice the main rubbish not filling up as much!
I also passed my driving test in jan and still not bothered about having a car!
If i could afford it, i would buy a economic car that runs on batteries.lol
I'm always trying to get others to realise how important it is to recycle!
I also try and keep electric and gas to a minimum!

I recycle - paper, plastic bags, plastic bottles, glass.
I would recycle plastic packaging as well (which makes up most of my waste) but there are no facilities around here.
I take it to the grocery store when it is time for the weekly shop.

We are fanatical recyclers in our house: metals, glass, paper are tossed into council-supplied separate bins, we re-use carrier bags until they fall apart at the seams (we also use fabric and hemp bags), we only use re-chargable batteries, we never buy disposable razors, and we compost kitchen waste. I'm also starting to remove un-necessary packaging from fruit and veg immediately after I pay for it, and hand the packaging back to the clerk. There's far too much packaging when it comes to supermarket products. things are often wrapped twice in plastic, which just isn't necessary in my opinion.

I recycle glass, plastic, newspaper, cardboard, and aluminum. I also have a composter in the garden. We do not have a curbside pickup, and I think if our city did, we would have more people recycling.
