I hate it when people go on about christmas really early. By the time it gets here, everyone is sick of the whole thing.

I agree with you. I get a sinking feeling when the first items for Christmas come on display in August and September. It builds up rapidly from there.
The cost to the average family budget is horrendous. People over eat, drink too much and pay for it in one way or the other for another 6 months.
Indeed bring back the good days when Christmas started early December and finished on Boxing Day.
When I starte work the only Christmas holiday we were allowed was Christmas Day and Boxing Day. If Christmas came at a weekend then we only had 1 day off either the Friday or the Monday. The long holiday is about the best part of it.
The other point is that most of the people that get drunk and over indulge at Christmas have little idea that it is a religious festival and probably don't even care that it is.
Another one off my chest.

It's better to be prepared early, and have everything ready and wrapped up before the big day itself, or you could end up being one of those desperate people who are running round like headless chickens on Christmas Eve with a huge list of presents still to buy. This is the time of year I start to think about what I am going to buy, then I get all the shopping done in November, and have December to chill out and enjoy.

well yes BUT in the stupid age its all about money the shops can get away with months of latest stuff going soo bl**dy expensive, i looked in argos the other day and a 2way radio i bought for £40 is now at £60 just because its the latest thing. It was work related buy and not little kiddie ones 2 radios with chargin pos battries hands free 300odd channels and other stuff, so did i get a bargin or pepple buying them now being charged too much? As i say the shops want their money the greed things.

The first lines go in 1st September. Thats the official start of Christmas for retailers. The argument is it helps people who want to spread the cost. I've actually been involved in producing in store Christmas POS and mocked up a store in June to see how it looked. The look on peoples faces when they walk in and those few seconds when they realise there are Christmas decorations up is priceless. Most seem to think that they are actually up for real

Most all Christmas spirit is dead, it has become one huge consumer fest, where everyone worships at the alter of the 'shop', whilst bearing offerings of 'money'.
In short, what else do you expect, the Christmas values that you yearn for involve being genuinely interested in other people, putting aside selfishness for one day, helping, charity and family. Most of which is not only low on the list of modern life, it is off of it.
As Christmas has become just another excuse to sell loads of crap, can you really blame the shops for cashing in earlier and earlier. Modern Christmas means nothing, so we may as well have all years round.

Sadly, there are so many people out there that have already started their xmas shopping. Sad, I know, but all the time these weirdos want to do it in October, then the shops will stock it. How sad is that tho? The best bit about xmas shopping is the xmas lights, the xmas carols being played and the knowledge that its less than 2 months away, not more than.
