1, 8, 27, 64. 125, 216, 343, 512, 729, 1000 etc
the integers raised to the third power.

Ways of visualising it:

A simple Rubik's cube (3 x 3 x 3) contains 27 unit cubes.

A 4 x 4 x 4 3-D Noughts and Crosses game contains 64 unit squares when the 4 boards are (mentally) stacked one above another.

Think of a box of Tate and Lyle sugar cubes. If it is 10 cubes along each edge, then there are 10^3 = 1000 cubes of sugar in the box.

RECREATIONAL MATHEMATICS WITH CUBE NUMBERS

Note that the series of cubic numbers has a pattern within it: take the differences between successive terms, twice

1, 8, 27, 64. 125, 216, 343, 512, 729, 1000
...7 19, 37, 61, 91, 127, 169, 217, 271
.....12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48, 54

Thus the next term in the top row can be derived by adding 60 to 271 to make 331 and add 331 to 1000 to make 1331

Note that all ten digits appear as the last digit of a cube number once in any sequence of ten such numbers and that they appear cyclically:

1000, 1331, 1728, 2137, 2744, 3375, 4096, 4913, 5832, 6859. 8000

Armed with a list of cube numbers, one can proceed to find integer solutions to the cubic "Pythagorean" formulae a^3 + b^3 + c^3 = d^3 and a^3 + b^3 = c^3 + d^3

(Of course Fermat's Last Theorem proved that there are no integer solutions to a^3 + b^3 = c^3, but there several simple integer solutions to these other two equations)

eg 1^3 + 6^3 + 8^3 = 9^3
1^3 + 12^3 = 9^3 + 10^3 (= 1729 = Ramanujan's famous "taxi" number)

Happy hunting!

Hi Cube no's are numbers that multiply by itself 3 times for example the cube no of 3 is 27. This is because 3x3x3=27. You should try and learn cube no up to 15. Its good practise for your GCSE's. Another way of writing a cube no is 3 to the power of 3. The power of 3 is another way of asking its cube. Hope this helps you.

A number multiplied by itself 3 times - one step up from a square number. So 3 cubed is 3 times 3 times 3 which is 27.

To cube a number, you multiply it by itself 3 times ie. 3 cubed is 3x3x3 =27. A cube root is the number that was originally multiplied, ie. the cube root of 27 is 3

It's the number multiplied by itself twice , like n*n*n , and it's called cube, because the result of this calculation is the volume of a cube which dimensions is n, n , n

a number that has been timesed by itself twice for example if your number was 3 the cube number would be 27 you work this out by doing the following sum (3x3)x3=27
