I write lyrics that come off the top of my head. I have a knack for it, not everyone does.
I suggest trying to use real life experiences to tell the story.

I just figured this one out recently.
1) Start off with a chord progression. You need an instrument for this. If you don't play anything, use a keyboard and pick up a book. I have one called "How to Write Songs On Keyboards". You can go cheaper, too. It doesn't matter much. Then just sit down at the keyboard and fiddle with different chords and find two or three, maybe four, that sound good together.
2) Now you need a melody. This is VERY simple. It sounds hard, and it is a bit of work, but it's not as complicated as it sounds: A chord goes with a scale. So if you play a C major chord, then while that chord is playing, any note in the C scale will fit (if you don't know what I'm talking about, don't worry. It's simple, and whatever book you're working from in step 1 ought to cover this as well. It is absolutely the most basic music theory, and all you will ever need).
3) Now you have a tune! All you need to make it a song now is words. What does your tune sound like? Happy? Sad? What do you think of when you hear it? THAT'S what your song is about. For me, this is the most work, but just say what you want to say. You know what songs sound like. Say whatever you want. It almost doesn't matter - a LOT of people respond to the first two steps, anyway.
And you're DONE. You have written a song. When I first figured this out, it took me a whole day to write a song, but that's pretty fast, anyway.
Oh, and sorry - I'm not a very good singer. But belt it out like you mean it. Sing it LOUD and with CONVICTION, and it'll sound fine.

Don't know much about songwriting - but you WILL have to improve your spelling (Thnaks???) before being taken seriously.

'Thnacks?' Isnt that what Chris Eubanks eats between meals?
Actually there is no formula as such - sometimes the music comes first, sometimes the lyrics. It depends on what's in the mind at the time
