Guinea pigs (also called Cavys) are a large rodent that originates from the Andes Mountains of South America. They come in a large range of colors and several types of fur. They're fun rodents that love to make a ton of noise. They're very skittish compared to hamsters, rats and mice but they're just as sociable as a dog. When they know food is going to arrive they start making a loud pig like noise guinea pig owners call a 'wheek'. Guinea pigs, when happy, will purr and bounce around their cage. They're very active creatures that need a large cage.

Long haired guinea pigs need their hair cut often as it grows up to 3 inches a year. Some guinea pigs have swirls all over them and if you try to brush them they become ticklish and will complain. Guinea Pigs don't bite very often. They prefer to run away or warn you that they're annoyed. They're herbivores and like humans, they need to eat vitamin C to stay healthy as their bodies can't produce it.

Hope that helps :-)
