i don't personally like it but to say that it promotes self harm (like the Daily Mail did) is completely ridiculous and ignorant. It's not dangerous, pop is dangerous because it teaches the kids that bland, unoriginal crap is acceptable.

Emo music isn't dangerous or rubbish it's just music that means alot to some people, emo is short for emotional because people who are known for being emo are just very emotional on the inside and take alot of things to heart.

I wouldn't say it was rubbish, as I personally do like some of it :P although admittedly, it can be difficult to define which bands are 'emo' and which are not.
As for it being dangerous though...I agree that it could be. But like people saying that video games and heavy metal can promote violence, I don't think the music itself should be blamed.
If people do self harm or have low self esteem after listening to emo music then it might be due to their own mindset- not everyone is affected by listening to music, like fashion magazines promoting anorexia- not all teenage girls have to fall victim to it because they may be more strong-minded than that. So although artists who write emo songs should bear in mind the negative effects it could have on teens, they shouldn't always be blamed in my opinion for emo behaviour.

if you take lots of lyrics too seriously, then it can make the music harmful. look at punk and rap... both genres are aften associated with angry anti-authority music that bashes other people (and sometimes encourages self-loathing). however, i would say that emo music is harmful because it encourages boys to wear tight black pants and also become whiney... oh yeah, another dangerous side of emo music is that emo kids are often sexually indeciferable, which can cause confusion in the boy's bathroom and lead to an emo-kid-***-kicking. jk

Music isn't dangerous the people who listen to it are dangerous.
People who blame theri actions on the lyrics of songs are just sad !
If you are that easily manipulated by music then you have problems to begin with !

I'm a metalhead and I'm not really a fan of Emo music. If the wrong person listens to it, they may hurt themselves. It's to be taken with a pinch of salt, not taken so that you cut yourself etc.

I would just say that it's expressive to the person that wrote the song! Dangerous possibly to a unstable person who chooses to listen to it!
