i have a peugeot 106 diesel, 5 years old. recently i have been having a load of problems with it. first of all, the battery died, i tried recharging it, but to no good. i bought a new battery, i also found out that the alternator wasn't working, so that's been replaced too. even after having those items replaced, the red battery warning light is still permenently on. what could be causing this ? faulty electrics ? somebody also suggested to me that it was something to do with the solanoid on the starter motor.... does anyone out there have any ideas of what it could be ? i would appreciate answers from people who have either had experience with peugeots, or any mechanics out there. thank u !!!

the best thing you can do is to find aan honest mechanic (difficult, but possible) who will properly diagnose the problem and fix the problem rather than replacing parts and hoping the replacement will take care of the problem. I really doubt that the starter solenoid will be doing this. Find a good mechanic..

The main problem is that you're replacing stuff without knowing what's wrong. Troubleshooting an alternator problem is not that hard. There's only one wire going to it, and one coming from it that can cause it not to work if it's spinning. Go to a competent mechanic and not the shyster who's been ripping you off.
Whoever suggested the solenoid or starter motor has absolutely no idea what they're talking about. Neither of those have anything to do with an alternator not working.

get your new alternator checked first. Just because it's new doesn't mean that it's working. This happened to a new alternator I put on my car.
The red light is only there to tell you not enough charge is coming from the alternator, other than that the circuit for the red light must be faulty.

A dead battery and faulty altenator is not a major proplem, they wear out, - Take your car to a Auto Electric Specialist- or the dealer.

Get rid of it! Cut your losses and sell it as-is on eBay. It's not worth the headache to keep.
