I've had missed calls on my mobile from two seperate numbers starting 0706 and on my land line I called the number and it put me through to an answer phone saying 'your call is being connected'. I promptly put the phone down. What's this all about?

i have had this several times on both my mobile and landline. when i answered my mobile to them they were trying to sell me a different mobile phone package. They bugged me and my husband for weeks on different numbers starting 0706.....in the end we threatened to report them and they miraculously stopped calling.

Most of these 070x numbers are "Hospital Patient Phones" whereby each bed in a hospital has its own phone, and call are made out by using a pre-paid card with a pin, and calls inwards all start with the 070. They are VERY expensive calls, - I was in hospital at the beginning of the month (in London) and bought a £5 card, and when I dialled a LOCAL number, the 'voice' told me that I could spend fifty minutes on this number, meaning that local calls are charged at 10p per minute. I answered this problem last week for somebody who'd had these 'mysterious' charges appear, and they came back to me and said "I'd forgotten I had a mate in hospital - No wonder he asked me to call HIM!"

I had a missed call the other day and rang back and it was some bloke who instantly said he was doing a security check for 02 (I am on Orange!) and asked blatantly for my bank acc number to check I am me. So I hung up and told the Police...

Ring your telephone provider, and ask them to check out the number. Say that the number keeps ringing you and then hanging up.

not necessarily a scam - sometimes when you call a vodaphone they do this, and sometimes it is when the other phone is abroad (ie/British user and phone in another country on hols)

its a pain isnt it. If people stopped buying stuff when they recieve these calls then they would stop doing it.
