If the nail did not crack, then if it does come off, it will grow back normally. You might be lucky and just be bruised under the nail, but if it's going to come off, it could take 3 - 4 weeks. It usually fully grows back within 6 months.
I personally think it will fall off. The same thing happened to me!

I wish I could have read these comments before I visited a podiatrist. He removed the loosened toenail by pulling it out - I saw the jagged edge as it left the nail bed. I am so sorry I went this route because my toenail is growing very slowly (it s been over a year) and it doesn t match the nail of my other toe (they used to match). In addition, my toe is tender when I push on it and it hurst when I walk in heels. I can t wear open toe shoes or sandals this summer - very sad. Just let it fall off by itself.

It might have turned purple because blood formed inside your nail, it that was what happened, there is a chance it will fall off.
Don't worry, mine once fell off and it grew back perfectly fine. It didn't even hurt.

I don't think so.
One time I trapped my thumb in a park gate, and it turned purple. I thought something was terribly wrong too, but it turned out that it was only bruised. The colour went after about 3 weeks.
Hope you've got nothing medical.

It might. But most likely it will grow back eventually.
Otherwise, it will just take a very long time for the blood trapped underneath to grow out.

If the nail base is still attached and there is just hemorrhage under the nail, it will grow out.

mine didn't. it gradually grew out as the nail grew. never mind just think of the nail varnish you'll save as its already coloured.

it wont fall off...if its severe then it stops growing but if its not that bad then it would return to normal
