I thought I might answer as I still have a pretty vivid memory of the island.
Go there if you want to see rusticity at its best. The sun-baked walls look white next to the sky which is usually a deep blue in summer. The coastline is beautiful and there are many long walks one can take on and off the beach.
Inside the island there are many gorgeous greek girls - the Mediterranean look is somewhat sexy. When I went there I glimpsed a look at the local night-life too, it was certainly up to standard if you know what I mean.
Aside from the night-life there are very picturesque towns and and harbour is something to be witnessed. A lot of package and yachting holidays have trips around the island so do search them up - good for you if you go.
The main thing I learnt on the island is that peace and quiet in a setting like that feels so much more profound.

Sunset on Ainos, playing with the waves at Myrtos, relaxing under the high pines of Skala, drinking ouzo at Fiskardo and greek coffee at Assos, visiting the famous caves of Melissani, watching the secret exit of underground waters....
Lovely architecture, cleanliness, polite and hospitable people, tasty and light cuisine, exquisite landscapes...
I was there almost 20 years ago and wanted to visit again one day, but I'm afraid that after building up every single inch of soil, I will not like it any more...

Great to sail around with a bar and restaurant at every port and harbour, but the island did look dry and sparse, like most Southern Med. islands, but uncluttered beaches, etc...

its a very pretty island with a fair bit to see . not a lot of historical buildings because of the big earthquake they had in the 40s and if you are lucky you will see dolphins and also large sea turtles we loved it
