I think I read about that, except the item I read mentioned computers rather than machines, the story was that computers would achieve the same brain capacity as the humans by that year !
Computers actually developed well over the English brain capacity around 50 years ago!! And the English aren't dead yet, (or are they? difficult to tell really)!!
Hope this helps??
And I agree with you there are a lot of very nasty people on this forum, I'm glad I'm not one of them!!

I wish someone would define what "human thinking" means, before claiming that they'll be able to reproduce it.
Could a computer do things better than us? Already, much of the things we use in the modern day were designed by computers, creating devices far more accurately than those created by any human hand ever could.
Computers now assist in sports, medicine, research, architecture, entertainment ... in fact, every aspect of human endeavour. Some of the most recent achievements probably would not have been possible without a computer.
But so far, computers have never been able to demonstrate a uniquely human quality.
Initiative.
Computers do not do things on their own: they have to be programmed to do what they're to be used for. Humans, on the other hand, have their own personalities and needs right from the get go. Even if a computer does develop this ability from its first bootup, it'll be because a piece of coded software programmed it to be this way, not because it spontaneously coded its own operating system from an empty hard drive.
If the scientists say that they will have created a computer sophisticated enough to work out its own agenda for what it wants by 2029, I wish them luck.
But I doubt they'll ever have a computer that will spontaneously, from the factory, start doing what it wants, rather than what it's been programmed to do.

I don't think it will happen. Machines will undoubtedly get faster and more efficient, and some kind of AI will emerge, but it will not be human. The more we learn about the none-sequential, complex nature of human intelligence, the more daunting the challenge of replication becomes.
Further, why would we want human machines? The point of a machine processor is that it can do somethings better than human intelligence.

Well there was an article a few months ago that over seas where the are building all the humaoid robots already that they are programming them with codes just like in the movie iRobot. That is kind of scary, but what the hell.

I doubt this is a serious question but one never knows these days. Even if machines were built (by man) w/human intelligence how does it follow we are all going to die? We aren't, for heavens sake.

The idea excites me. The machines would not have a primary motive of destruction (that's mankind's job); but they would deign themselves to be benevolent governors of the planet (first step would be the necessary subjugation and population control of humans).
Don't worry, it won't happen in your lifetime, and you would be the sort that they would keep anyway.

Well, we have to follow the plan that Terminator 1 2and 3 set out for us. Or the matrix. Anything is possible.

That's kind of a leap. We have human intelligence at the moment but we don't all die because of it; human stupidity on the other hand...
