Because with the influx of seniors and older persons, who are managing and living healthier lifestyles, the diagnosis, cure, and treatment of diseases, and education about risks .. people become wiser to healthier steps to prolong their lives.

Children suffering from obesity, is most environmental and behavioral..even if a person is young, and a parent is either lazy or uneducated about nutrition, once they mature, they can take steps to reverse unhealthy lifestyles.

I think also once you get older, you do all that you can to prolong your health.

Because the generation that is living longer is the generation that is now older. They grew up in an age where there was no cell phones, no Blackberries, no computers, no video games, and they had to play outside or read a book. TV even had only two or three channels in most homes. They spent more time outdoors engaged in physical activities. On top of that they also were a recipient of the medical advances of the last century therefore better medical care. I believe as the generation that is now in it's teens gets older you will see the average lifespan drop

Because children are the next generation and they wont live as long if they are obese. This generation (people now over 50) are the ones living longer because we didnt have the junk food thats available now.

It's not our children's generation that are living longer - it is our parents / grandparents generation.

Don't forget - our parents / grandparents didn't grow up with MacDonalds, artificial colouring and flavour enhancements in everything they ate. They didn't eat piles and piles of candy - most of them thought a couple of pennies was alot of cash to buy their weekly treat.

WE = The currently retired generation, are living longer because they lived through the wars, didn't over eat, didn't indulge in binge drinking, binge eating and usually worked more physically.

Our childrens generation have been brought up on fast food, candy and usually end up doing drugs, smoking, binge drinking and a huge percentage will contract lifestyle problems such as diabetes, nerve disorders, mental disfunction, heart diseases, liver disease..... they are pretty much set up to die young.

At the moment we are living longer because the 'WE' they are talking about are the people who are living past 70yrs old. Our kids are not there yet.

Not confusing at all.

You are talking about different age groups. Older people are living longer due to improvements in medicine and they did not stuff themselves silly on comfort foods when they were young.
Children now eat the wrong foods and too much of it, thereby compromising their chances of leading a long life as they will get heart attacks, strokes etc...at a relatively early age.

Wrong. They now say the next generation is the first for some time with a shorter life expectancy.

The oldies of this generation are the people who grew up in the war on rations. No sugar, biscuits and very little butter. Thats
why they are living longer. This generation of children however
will be the first to be dead before their parents.

The obesity may indeed cut life expectancies in the future. But it hasn't happened yet. Those children may die earlier than otherwise, but it will be a while before that starts happening.

There are more obese people but lives are longer due to medicine.
