Without the aid of performance-enhancing drugs? I doubt it. But then it's near impossible to keep athletics 100% clean of such substances. (You'd have to question the legitimacy of many of the records set over the course of the past 20 years). Are humans getting faster through natural evolution? This seems highly unlikely when you think that we are now less active as a species than we have ever been in our history. As the human mind has advanced (and has dreamt up innumerous devices to minimise physical labour & developed a wealth of vehicles to assist us in transport), our need to rely on our physical condition (eg. for hunting) has subsided significantly.
It's been joked about in the past, but perhaps the only way to make such sports interesting again might be to introduce a 'narcotic olympics', where you allow competitors to indulge in whatever performance substance they so wish - and sit back and watch as they on-by-one self-combust on track before our eyes! (then again, perhaps not)

Of course you will. The record will be faster and faster, so the effort to beat the record will be higher and higher. This is just like the under 4 minute mile thing. At first it was thought to be impossible, but now people are doing it.

To average a 2 hour marathon, would mean an average speed of 13 miles per hour. Can it be done? Maybe,,,its a target to shoot for anyway!
But, I believe God gave me feet to reach the gas pedals on my truck so I'm not going to worry about it too much ok?

To go under 2 hours, they only need to run another 12 seconds a mile quicker, but that definitely sounds easier than it would be to do!
I think eventually it might be done, but it's a big ask.

i am sure you heard of world records don't you, well you just have to wait till its broken thats all! thats why they call it the world record. Its just about time also, humans are getting better technology, research and better training method to help in cutting down seconds in marathon, let alone minutes. But its just about time as i said. It will happen. Cheers
