Having mother, two children and a best friend who are Virgos, I feel very qualified to answer this question. They are fun-loving, excellent friends and caring and faithful. On the down-side they are very particular and hard to please at times and tend to be fuss-budgets!

wow. that doesnt sound like a virgo at all. It could just be the people you know because i know many virgos and they are very docile. They are laid back not physically abusive. most virgos arent built so tough either they are tall normally lol and they are a bit picky, sarcastic but not verbally abusive. And EVERYONE gets mad sometimes, your friends just take it to another level and no offense but it sounds like they need help if they are physically abusive. And u being a libra you are right, u wont understand them lol. Libras judge quickly before anything. They dont analyze all the facts like a virgo does so they may not get along all that well too. No offense. It depends on birth charts and u've checked they are majority virgo....what about their mars sign? cuz if its virgo then they wont be abusive in any of the sense, they'd be the opposite! virgos are normally sweet hearts with OCD =].

Virgos are very big perfectionists--when they attempt a task they are sure to have it done perfectly, and they will try over and over to make sure this is so. they are one of the hardest working signs in the zodiac--first to arrive at work, last to leave. They are very determined and when they set their minds to something they will accomplish it.
They are outgoing, friendly, life of the party type people as they love to be the center of attention. They crave romance but are not into showing their romance on the outside. They are very practical people (unlike their counterpart Pisces), they do not have their head in the clouds and know exactly where they are headed in life. They can be stubborn when they know what they want and are very down to earth.
A virgo makes a loyal friend...and you can also expect some adventure when being friends witha virgo. In a relationship Virgos are very old fashioned--the woman likes to be the ruler of the home, but also expects the husband to earn some $$. The man expects to have a wife that doesn't mind doing things for him.
They can make good parents--but are very strict with their children.
Their best matches are Capricorn and taurus. Their worst matches are Pisces and Gemini.

virgos are sweet, caring, perfectionist, sometimes critical but please believe i know to handle that. They are very hardworking and determined people. Once they have made up their mind about something they will never change it back. They are always smiling, laughing and love helping people. Being a nerd now that's a new one on me because i have never ever met a virgo that was a nerd.

Virgo the Virgin, an earth sign, is the sixth sign of the tropical zodiac. The Sun on his annual journey shines in Virgo between Aug 22 and Sep 21, though it can vary depending on the year. The Sun in astrology stands for our inner nature, the stamp of our true character.
A mutable (fluid and changeable) sign, Virgo governs critical analysis, intellectual subtlety and service. Virgo people are inclined to be practical and industrious, yet adaptable, with a remarkable eye for detail. Virgo is an intellectual and discriminating feminine sign ruled by the magical trickster Mercury, the messenger of the gods.
The emblem of Virgo, a virgin holding sheaves of wheat in her hands, symbolises wisdom, garnered in the fields of experience. Like the true virgin, most Virgos are shy and, like a virgin waiting to give herself to the perfect lover, Virgo is also idealistic.
Disappointment, however, can harden you into a cynic and a skeptic. Virgo consequently becomes quite critical with self as well as circumstances, due to the effect of such disappointments on a sensitive and discriminating nature.
The planet Mercury, governing our intellect and communicative faculties, rules Virgo, where tradition also places the house of its exaltation, so Virgins have a truly intellectual, critical and analytical approach to life. Communication is important and you love books, magazines, and writing.
A Critical Eye
A critical eye for detail, combined with your ceaseless pursuit of perfection, endows you with an irresistible urge to improve everything and everyone (whether they need it or not!). Service-oriented Virgo seeks to improve the environment, by pursuing careers in health-related fields, or in other structured areas such as teaching, labour relations, or counselling. Intensely personal situations can be somewhat inhibiting, but other circumstances can produce a very dynamic Virgo indeed. Hmmm.
Although you often have altruistic motives in helping others, you do have a teensy tendency to act the martyr when your offerings are ignored. It is not unheard of for you to use guilt as a weapon. Helping others to improve is one thing, my dears, but pushing them toward goals of perfection they cannot hope to accomplish is quite destructive, as well as impossible.
Health ConsciousHealth-conscious Virgo makes an effort to stay physically fit and you don't mind repetitive exercise routines, if you can see achievable outcomes. You enjoy tennis, racquetball, swimming, sailing, fishing, and biking, even though athletically you are not overly competitive. It's just that you always seek to perfect whatever skills you may have, primarily for the sake of doing a thing well. Talented in various crafts, dressmaking and designing, you may also take a particular interest in such things as cartography, travel, and philately.
Virgo rules the the sinuses, respiratory system, and bowels. Colds, flu, allergies, problems with intestines and constipation are common Virgo complaints. You are also subject to black moods and despondency from time to time, which can adversely affect others in your vicinity.
Your colours are blue, yellow, grey, tan, navy, and lilac and your birthstone is the sapphire, a variety of corundum. This gem was considered by ancient societies to be a love charm. Though they come in a variety of colours and can even be transparent, the most valuable sapphires are blue. Blue is also the principal colour associated with Virgo. Flowers and plants for Virgo include the aster, chrysanthemum, ivy, and fern.

Virgos are said to be overly critical, analytical, detail-oriented, and, yes, nerdy.
Among all the signs, Virgo is seen as the "nerdiest." Sorry.

Virgo is the sixth sign therefore representing the sixth period of life (35-42). Virgos are very secretive and are very particular both in regard to what they conceal and what they reveal-also when and how they do it. The inner world of the Virgo is not so much a dreamy one but one taken up with analyzing, solving, assessing. The future is also a primary focus for the Virgo, who tends to plan and work toward goals. This is not meant to imply that Virgos do not enjoy spontaneity and improvisation too, but an underlying structure is usually essential to that enjoyment. Virgos make excellent family members and co-workers, able to contribute greatly to the group effort. Virgos tend to take things literally, so if promised something they will expect others to come through. Sometimes their sense of humor can be dampened by this literalism, although they are fond of wordplay and wit. Virgos often make silent demands, expecting that their needs will be met without having to state them verbally. Virgo attractions: Gemini, Pisces, Taurus. Famous Virgos: Mother Teresa, Queen Elizabeth I, and Sean Connery.
