One could certainly argue the growth of capitalism and the protestant work ethic as its moral corollary contributed to the eventual democratic revolutions in the west, and a lack thereof could explain why it did not happen in the mideast and far east. (sorry for doing this from a western perspective but i have educational biases)

The democratic revolutions are at base necesitated on an intellectual and social appreciation of indivudality. For this to occur there needed to be an economic system (capitalism) to bring people to the social understanding that people had certain rights that needed to be representatively protected. For this to occur protestantism ( a much more individualistic faith) had to legitamate the economic changes occuring in society. Without people believing individuality was Gods given right to man, which only comes from a release from the more traditonal authorities of Feudalism (economic) and the Roman Catholic church (moral corollary) the individualism required could not have occured.

This is not to say similar things were not going on in the areas you have suggested but they only appear in elements of more traditional authority systems (which are not by their nature individualistic) With older ancestor worship practices in china specifically along with sharia law in islamic nations, tradition still ruled over individuality in large part. Without a surge of individuality into the social conciousness it is difficult to expect people to revolt to democracy, which is a system that doesnt make as much sense for a tradtional society when religious authorities were still very effective.

Not until colonialism and some increased diffusion in cultures (coerced and not) do people find the indivduality and the break down of traditional authorites necesary to incite democratic revolution.
