INFORMATION:
The format that you can download YouTube videos is .FLV format (which is a flash video format)
You need the firefox web browser, to install the "greasemonkey" plugin... and also the script which runs with the greasemonkey software, basically after a YouTube video has downloaded fully, there is a red bar that goes at the top of your browser and you can right click and save target as and download the movie directly from there. it's simple.

Also, you will need an FLV player to view these videos. Here's a free one:

yes.. VERY HARD and COMPLICATED process..
-----------
Software you'll Need:
Firefox: http://www.mozilla.com/products/firefox/central.html
Firefox Plugin (DownloadHelper): https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/3006/
Ultra Video to Flash Converter: http://www.ultrashareware.com/Video2iPod.exe
---------
Ok.. After downloading all programs, visit the youtube video website you want with FireFox.
on a youtube video page, look to the User Interface of your Firefox Browser, there should be a new icon, resembling an orange doodle. click the doodle, and click the appropriate flv file.
the flv file should begin shortly, once the download is complete, find the file on your computer (Tools>Downloads>right click the flv file> Open containing folder). Click and drag the flv. file to the video converter. on the video converter, click options and set the output to a MPG file. specify what folder you want to save it at, modify the framerate to 30, and move on to the Batch tab. click convert, and the conversion of flv to mpg will begin.
after the file is complete, you will have the movie stored in your computer.
search for the new MPG file, double click it, and VOILA!
-------
NOTE: This is called 'pirating' and is illegal in most countries
