My wife will soon be migrating to Australia and wants to bring more than is allowed on the plane.

maybe she can go to the post office in manila before she leaves for australia, and pay the necessary fees.. it takes 10-15 days for the package / parcel to arrive. Just make sure that the package/parcel is tightly secured and properly labeled..

have done it thrice and the recipient did receive the package i sent, so its perfectly safe..

Small: UPS or FedEx Large: a 15' shipping container
Extra Large: a 40" shipping container
That should cover everything from a few boxes to a house full of furniture and a car!

my best bet will be the balikbayan box system although as one already said twould really take time.
another cheap way would be the EMS service of the philippine post office.

ask your wife to use the sysrem balik bayan; cheap may long but it works well
