What do they seek from the light/

They navigate at night by the light of the moon. So now there is man made light interfering so they are drawn to that light. Therefore they keep circling the light thinking the have reached the moon.

Some lights give off too much heat and it burns the insects to a crisp. Ironically some insect killing machines are built on this principle.

Um i guess your talking about such insects like the moth...well who knows the full nature of these things some things are just meant to be, and are hard to understand....i suppose it's like saying why do the wilder beast cross the river when they know the crocodile will eat them?....some things are just designed that way.
