Though there are certainly safety issues that one hopes you are aware of there are a couple simple things that probably make the transition a little eaiser (though few people really learn these things ahead of time)

1) there are a lot of things you probably wont be good at - be it a class, getting along with some of your classmates, feeding yourself or eating a healthily balanced diet, managing your time, the list goes on and on.

2) Nothing on list 1 is really that big of a deal... its ok to screw things up as really up until now you might not have had too many chances to try things out for yourself. Its perfectly ok that things dont work out how they should all the time, they usually dont really, but they seem to find a way in the end.

3) You will probably be homesick for something - your family, friends, pet, whatever at somepoint you will miss something. Its ok to want to reconnect and feel like you made a terrible decision at times, and eventually you will remember the good things and why you are there.

4) a lot of people dont get it either, especially all the first timers. It takes a little while to get a routine (and maybe we never get it completely) but other people are feeling the same things, and they are there for you too. college life is a cooperative process as most people really cant hack it by themselves all the time.

5) all the things i forgot....its a lot more fun for most than it is a problem and just try to make the most of out of the variety of experiences that you are bound to have.

you'll love texas ...it's very friendly here...i don't know which college you are going to but...it's like any other place and since you will be on your own all alone somewhere

1. There is nothing that says you have to answer and open your door ....unless you are expecting someone...have them call first so you know to expect them

2. Do not go up to strangers cars...even if they ask you for directions keep a distance between you and them.

3. Always watch your drink if you are out anywhere...you never know what could be dropped in it

other than that...come.....have fun and see all the sites there is so much to do here..our winters are short and mild in most areas and i hope you like the heat cuz it gets pretty darn hot and humid..you will definetley need air conditioning in your home and car.. :o)

I stay in a house with 4 human beings (father and mom and siblings) and used to stay on my own 4 years in the past. i could no longer cope with to pay for it on the time and moved back domicile, yet now that i will cope with to pay for it I plan on shifting out on my own on the top of this twelve months. i think of an excellent form of it has to do which incorporate your character. some individuals want corporation, some human beings want solitude. i'm the latter. as much as I get exhilaration from being around human beings, I decide to outlive my own, and function in ordinary terms myself to respond to to or shelter. that could sound egocentric, yet I hate according to others and hate others having to believe in me (no longer which is composed of artwork). i'm no longer likely a social animal i assume! i admire peace and quiet and being on my own... specially circumstances I do discover it too quiet yet then I only invite some individuals around and this is high quality. desire thats some help!

Are you going to "alone" or with roomies? If alone then I advise getting a cat or fish or houseplant, depending on your level of responsibilty.
