I will have to travel to Pune on 28.10.2006. I have no affordability to travel by air.

Just check for tickets in Air Deccan ,Spice jet etc.

You can try Tatkal Tickets. You may have to pay the Full fare from Chennai to Mumbai plus Rs. 150/ for sleeper and Rs. 300/- for Higher classes. Almost surely you will get in Tatkal quota. Best of Luck. Final option may be Air Deccan, Spice Jet etc. which may be around Rs. 1500- Rs. 2000/- You may try. Im not sure

Take an overnight bus to Bangalore, which is direct west from chennai. Lot of options here - Airavat KSRTC Volvo is about Rs. 450.
Take a bus from Bangalore to Pune - takes about 16 hours or longer. Bus typically leaves in the afternoon and will drop you early morning. So you have to kill a morning-lunch in Bangalore. Lot of Options. Sharma and VRL are well known, about Rs. 750~1000 A/C Volvo.

u can book ur tkt today in tatkal for any train towards Mumbai for ur journey on 26th. or the option is go to Hyderabad by any train. To Pune from Hyderabad by bus or train.

If u can travel by Channai Express/ charminar express. U have Hussainsager exp at 2.30 PM

you can take tatkal tickets on the day of journey by going to the station early in the morning
