Out of the creation of all universes, there was a continuum of thought which is intangible until created. Somehow man feels that thought is his own, but once something has been discovered then he takes ownership. All are God's creation until you come into cause and effect of something. The continuum of thought always was and is. I believe He gets enjoyment out of what he created and views Himself in all things.
In christian scripture it says that it is not good for man to be alone and therefore created Eve. Also God created man in his image and likeness and therefore in the likeness God didn't want to be alone. We are his kaleidoscopes of the universes. 3D in color and live!!! What are you going to do next, i.e., comedy, drama, next Payton Place episode. Sometimes I feel God is laughing so hard His side hurts!!

Creation
Bahá’u’lláh teaches that the universe is without beginning in time. It is a perpetual emanation from the Great First Cause. The Creator always had His creation and always will have. Worlds and systems may come and go, but the universe remains. All things that undergo composition, in time undergo decomposition, but the component elements remain. The creation of a world, a daisy or a human body is not “making something out of nothing”; it is rather a bringing together of elements which before were scattered, a making visible of something which before was hidden. By and by the elements will again be scattered, the form will disappear, but nothing is really lost or annihilated; ever new combinations and forms arise from the ruins of the old. Bahá’u’lláh confirms the scientists who claim, not six thousand, but millions and billions of years for the history of the earth’s creation. The evolution theory does not deny creative power. It only tries to describe the method of its manifestation; and the wonderful story of the material universe which the astronomer, the geologist, the physicist and the biologist are gradually unfolding to our gaze is, rightly appreciated, far more capable of evoking the deepest reverence and worship than the crude and bald account of creation given in the Hebrew Scriptures. The old account in 205 the Book of Genesis had, however, the advantage of indicating by a few bold strokes of symbolism the essential spiritual meanings of the story, as a master painter may, by a few strokes of the brush, convey expressions which the mere plodder with the most laborious attention to details may utterly fail to portray. If the material details blind us to the spiritual meaning, then we should be better without them; but if we have once firmly grasped the essential meaning of the whole scheme, then knowledge of the details will give our conception a wonderful added richness and splendor and make it a magnificent picture instead of a mere sketch plan.
‘Abdu’l-Bahá says:—
Know that it is one of the most abstruse spiritual truths that the world of existence, that is to say this endless universe, has no beginning. …
… Know that … a creator without a creature is impossible, a provider without those provided for cannot be conceived; for all the divine names and attributes demand the existence of beings. If we could imagine a time when no beings existed, this imagination would be the denial of the Divinity of God. Moreover, absolute non-existence cannot become existence. If the beings were absolutely non-existent, existence would not have come into being. Therefore, as the Essence of Unity, that is the existence of God, is everlasting and eternal—that is to say, it has neither beginning nor end—it is certain that this world of existence … has neither beginning nor end. … it may be that one of the parts of the universe, one of the globes, for example, may come into existence, or may be disintegrated, but the other endless globes are still existing. … As each globe has a beginning, necessarily it has an end, because every composition, collective or particular, must of necessity be decomposed; the only difference is that some are quickly decomposed, and others more slowly, but it is impossible that a composed thing should not eventually be decomposed.—Some Answered Questions, pp. 209–210.

First of all, this is not a history question. It is maybe a philosophy question.
But I will tell you something:
Socrates, the ancient Greek philosopher said "There is only one thing that I know, that I know nothing".It is my favourite phrase because I believe that we are very small and our brains are so tiny that we can not understand what is going on.I don't believe that we are capable to understand why we exist or why the universe exists.Maybe ,someday the human brain can understand all those things but now it is not so easy to say something true about these matters.
I want to say something to someone above ,who said that the universe always existed.Well, scientists say other things:
Mathematicians, astronomers and everyone who knows about physics know that the universe was created after the Big Bang. That means that there was nothing and the universe just began to exist suddenly. That is what the most of religions were always saying.I believe in God( I am a Greek Orthodox) and I believe that He created mathematic rules in the beggining. Then He left the things to come and that is what we can see all over right now.Why did He do it?I really do not know, maybe we can understand some day!

Im a Christian and for me it's an easy answer. The world was created to sustain human life for one purpose. God created man to Praise him and him alone.

To give of himself, he is all giving and all loving
to have a realationship with others
A good book that touches on this is
"Embraced by the Light" by last name Eadie
She met God in near death experience and lived to tell about it.
Also being a drama junkie, i would guess it's much fun to enjoy the show, in the end we have to laugh at the seriousness of how we worried about things
Love you, don't have time for crazieness.

It is a very large universe. I think that it is a school, the ones who learn go on to higher things, those who do not get recycled. It is probably to expand truth unto the universe. Knowledge is power. The ultimate choice is in the heart.
