You should check out the Michelin Guide that just came out for SF. They're world class and some of the toughest critics around: http://www.luxurytraveler.com/michelin_guide_for_sfo_norcal.html
Aqua, Range, Fleur de Lys, and Quince are on that list. But the number one restaurant in the Bay Area is undoubtedly the "French Laundry" in Yountville. You could probably run about $300 per person for lunch (includes tip and wine). It's been voted as one of the top restaurants in the world.

Masa's has long been a top eating establishment in SF
Others worth noting are Aqua,Anzu, the 5th Floor and Michael Mina. Jardiniere is also very nice.
Stay away from the rotating place on top of the Hyatt; its microwaved trash at a huge price. Just paying for the view of the city

If you wanted to travel a bit more north, there's the infamous French Laundry in Yountville. Or Don Giovanni in Napa. You can easily drop hundreds of bucks at those places.

"Equinox" on top of the Hyatt Regency , am not sure about most "expensive" , but the view is "priceless" , if I can borrow your Mastercard . The only revolving restaurant in northern California !!! A beautiful 360 degree view of "Baghdad by the Bay "..
