I recently had done 2 pregnancy tests which both came up positive. About a week later i had some bleeding and was advised to go to the hospital for a scan. They could find no traces of a fetus and did a test which came up not pregnant. I am now very confused and embarressed. Was i pregnant or not - has anyone else had this happen.

about 10 years ago i had exactly the same happen to me, i had missed 2 periods and i promptly went out and brought a pregnancy test, it came out very faint but it was positive, so there was me 20 not knowing what to do, id split up with the "dad" a few weeks before, after a lot of thought i decided to tell him, he wasnt best pleased but accepted it(i think lol), so when i started to bleed the next day i panicked, i went to the docs and told him and i had a thorough check up, the only explanation they could come up with was that i had a hormone imbalance, it turned out i had got polycystic ovary syndrome, but to this day i will never understand what went on, to this day im confused, so my advice try to forget about it because if the docs cant give you an explanation you wont find one ( i dont think), and if you ever do, e-mail me and let me know lol. Good luck and you have my sympathies, especially if you really wanted to be pregnant.....

Hmm, this doesn't sound right. Even if you miscarried completely on your own (very possible) it seems like a test would have come up positive. However, if you weren't very far along, it's possible the pregnancy hormone was out of your system by the time you went to the hospital.

The only way you could have a false positive on a pregnancy test is if you are on some kind of hormone replacement therapy, or some other type of hormone drug. But in that case, it would have shown up at the hospital too.

I guess I would say that you were pregnant and had a very early miscarriage. I also had one very early on (around 5 weeks), never went to the hospital or anything - it all took care of itself.

the same happened to me i had a positive test at home which was very faint so i went to the docs and the same happened the test was faint but positive. and from my dates i was about 5 1/2 weeks pregnant. then at 7 weeks i started to bleed. it was very faint at first but i went to my local walk-in center and told them they did a urinalysis and they found trace amounts of blood. so i was told to go home and rest over night and sent to my local EPAU (early pregnancy assessment unit). my bleeding had got a little heavier. i had a normal scan which showed thickening of the lining of my womb which indicated a pregnancy. how ever they couldn't see a baby so they decided to do and internal scan just to make sure that the pregnancy had not developed in my Fallopian tubes. this also showed no baby. as you can probably guess i was distraught at this news. how could i have had a positive test and have no baby??. i was told by one of the staff that my hormones were at a very low level and they can only see a baby when it is at a certain level and it was a possibility that i was only a couple of weeks along and not as far as indicated by my last period. it can happen like this, that you conceive very late during your cycle and so the baby isn't detectable. i was asked to go back in 24hrs to have more blood tests to see how high the hormones were but unfortunately they were falling indicating a miscarriage. my hormones were that low that another urine test came up negative. but there is light at the end of the tunnel as I'm now 12 weeks pregnant and i am going for my first scan a week on Wednesday. and i think only when i see my baby for the first time will i relax and enjoy this pregnancy. I'm sorry for your loss and i hope that my story helps you a little.

Yes, this has happened to me, I cannot have children due to low hormore levels and non functioning ovaries, but about 2 years ago I was scheduled to have a minor surgery done so the doctor ordered all the routine blood tests. The day of my surgery I was told I could not have surgery because I was pregnant! Now, I have had several tests done and I knew for a fact I was not pregnant, but I had another blood test and 3 urine tests done a week apart before the doctor figured out it was a hormone fluctuation that cause the false positive. When your hormones are out of whack and you take a test, you can have a false positive test, don't be embarrassed, it was nothing you did.

well i did a home pregnancy test it came back positive then i started bleeding the same day so i went 2 the hospital and they put it down 2 implantation bleeding (when the embryo plants itself into the uterus).they also did a test and confirmed the pregnancy.(i was around 5 weeks) i carried on bleeding for 5 days then it got slightly thicker (no pain) so i went back 2 hospital and they did 2 pregnancy tests which came back negative so they said i had mis carried. it was so wierd. they just told me 2 go home, rest and let it come away itself.......have u had any little clots or anything........it sounds as though u mis carried and your hormone level had dropped alot within in that time and the time of u going 2 the hospital.......thats nature 4 u eh!!!.....if u wanted 2 be preg then im really sorry n hope u get caught again soon....good luck xx

Yes I had something similar. In between losing my first baby and successfully having my second I had a positive test, slightly bled a few days later then had a heavier bleed a day or two later. I had a scan and was told that because it was an early stage pregnancy it had absorbed back into my body. I was told that you can't have a wrong positive test, if the h.c.g hormone is in your body it will be detected. I'm surprised the hospital didn't tell you this.

hi there, you dont realy get a false postive preg test as the tests works by detecting the pregnancy hormone in your urine, so you must have been pregnant before your body produces this. sounds like you may have had an early miscarriage. the nurse at the early pregnancy unit should have taken a blood sample this would have detected the level of pregnancy hormone in your blood as it decreases every few hours when you have had a miscarriage and you would be surprised how quickly this decreases and before you know it your body is in a state of pre pregnancy. the scan wouldnt have shown any sac with embryo in it as it would have past in the bleeding.. sorry

you're in all risk pregnant-- fake positives are uncommon by way of fact a attempt can basically be beneficial if it thoughts up the being pregnant hormone on your urine. you have taken numerous diverse manufacturers, so as that could desire to be a area of the project-- each and each attempt has diverse sensitivity stages and while you're very early on, some assessments that are much less gentle could supply you a unfavorable analyzing. And are you using your first morning urine each and every time you have examined, or a minimum of preserving it for 4 hours formerly taking yet another attempt? If no longer-- your hormones won't be centred adequate on your urine to p.c.. up on a attempt. Dilution could additionally reason fake negatives-- like in case you tried to drink quite some water so which you may could pee returned perfect away. in short-- fake negatives are lots greater hassle-loose than fake positives!

I was told there is no such thing as a false positive, but you could get a false negative. The pregnancy tests pick up the pregnancy hormone which would not be in your body unless you were pregnant.
