i'm pregnant right now for the first time, but right before i got pregnant i was doing rotations as a nurse in labor and delivery and there was a sick baby in the nursery that was 5 days old. the mom couldn't stay in the hospital with him, so she had to come in every 4 hours and feed him. luckily she only lived a few minutes from the hospital! this baby would just completely LIGHT UP when his mom came in and picked him up. he would smile the hugest grin and just start wriggling. he never did that with any of us. it seriously made me cry when i saw it, it was amazing.

They know you the mommy when they were in your tummy. They know the smell of your cooking and what you eat. They know your voice and whoever always talk with you. They know your smell when you breastfeed them or just hold them closely. they know their daddy's face when he or she sees him (not clearly) all the time. There is a special connection between parents and their babies (of course they have to be around). They can distinguish who is mommy and who is daddy when they are about 1 year. The bottom line is that they know who love them.

Scientifically I cant even tell you! But..my son is almost 6 weeks old and he knows who I am. He knows my voice and my face, my smell everything. In the morning he looks dead in my eyes and my face and I talk with him and he'll move around and "TRY" and communicate back. When other people/family member hold him and he goes into a room with him..hes okl..but then when I walk into the room and he can see, smell or hear me hell start crying until I pick him up.

From the time he/she is born. Normally the mother first, because of the closeness before birth.

They begin learning to recognize your voices while they are still inside the womb. They do not fully recognize that they are separate people from their parents until they are old men and women.
