I've done it when I almost died once, but I think it's healthier to stay in your body.

Yes, I do it less frequently as an adult. It is not always pleasant and can be quite frightening. Why anyone would strive to do it on purpose is way beyond me. Sometimes, though, it has been cool. Other times, it took me to places where I witnessed things I didn't want to witness. Things I read about in the paper the next day. If I could never, ever do it again, I wouldn't.

It's 'astral' projecting, and yes it's real, but it's a difficult thing to learn. I've tried to no avail, but i know a couple people who have done it. Kids do it all the time- ever have dreams when you were a kid, that you could fly? Chances are good that you were astral projecting. Anyway, there's lots of resources about it on the internet, and a few good books out there too. It's a really fascinating thing to learn about.

I once read a book about it, which gave steps to meditate and eventually to achieve real projection. It never worked for me. I did become very relaxed, and felt I was on the verge of a real breakthrough, but I just couldn't break through. I do believe it is possible. You should try the meditations.

I think I have. Usually when I am trying to fall asleep. This started when I was around 9 and I've done it since.

Your spirit can't leave your body unless you are dead. The spirit keeps the body alive.
Its a myth such thing happens.
