Some people think that it's Snape's love for Lily Potter that made him return to the good side.

Btw isn't it interesting that the prophecy could've applied to both Harry and Neville? They both fit the description as they were both born in July. It could've been anyone of them...

Ok here s the deal - now this is my perception and you are free to disagree with me- I think Snape was immensely jealous of Harry's dad James and thus he also knew that James had a real bad crush on Lily- Hence forth he might have had a liking for her to take her away from James < which in turn would have caused him pain> but i won't put it as love- In case you have noticed Ginny is like Lily in many ways and thus is the perfect one for harry-
He came back to the good side due to Voldemort or Dumbledore or due to some internal motive - it is unknown but will soon be revealed in the 7 th book-
the prophecy applies to Harry only-because he has powers that Voldemort knows not

Book 6 shows us that Snape's return to the good side was infact all an act! He is still loyal to Voldemort.
And he killed Dumbledore! I don't think he ever returned to the good side. He only acted so that he wouldn't have to be in Azkaban. I think he was using Occlumency against Dumbledore, so even old Dumby was not aware of Snape's true colors!

I'm just going to wait until the final book comes out. All of the speculation and theories are quite interesting but also very frustrating. There are so many directions that the last book can go that I have finally given up trying to figure it all out.

well, snape might have had a crush on Lily, and then there's the whole being-jealous-of-James issue, but then again Lily was a muggle-born, right? and i highly doubt Snape would have liked muggle-borns

yes i think he does coz she felt very sorry for him when harry's dad did a spell on snape that made him fly in the air when they were much younger. she also hated james potter coz she though he was ignorant and selfish.

sure, i guess he liked her cause he was always jealous of harry's dad adn supposedly hated him, so then why would he be good sometimes and help harry?
