Tell me honestly... what's 6 months or a year compared to what it might buy you? I've always figured give a job 6 months, and if I still hate it after that, it's probably not a good job for me. But I've stuck through and come out on the management end of the stick a few times now, 'cuz that was what I'd set my goal to be. What is your goal? Do you want to work for this firm? If you do, then consider this unpleasant job as being just one of the stepping stones to your destination, and keep your eye on the prize.

If it were me, I would do the following. I would keep the job for six months and save up for a couple of months living expenses. Meanwhile while I was at the company I would continue to say that you are interested in working in the creative department and every month bring the topic up casually with the head of the creative department. I would say to him or her that this was your ultimate career goal and you were bursting to work on a creative team. At the end of six months I would formally ask for a transfer to the creative department -- formally means a written memo. In the memo I would have a paragraph about your experience and training and a rough outline of your career goals. Not be President of the company, but work on projects that involved, television, print, radio, internet. The last sentence or two in the paragraph should say how you feel you could contribute to the company's goals. If you don't get the job after you send the memo then give your notice, but be nice about it. After six months if they haven't given you a tryout in the creative department, they never will. Life is too short to work at a job you hate. Then try again to get the job you really want while living on your savings. Having worked in an advertising agency even in data management gives you some skills they may also need in the creative department -- every project contract always involves negotiating costs and bidding for contracts. But another way to get what you want is to continue to apply for jobs in other companies' creative departments while you are still employed in your current job. It's not against the rules and eventually you will find that everyone does it. There is a maxim in the workplace: You should never stop sending out pitch letters and resumes. Work for one company too long you get stuck in a rut. Also after a year or two you have contributed everything to the company you ever will be able to contribute and your job skills get stuck in a rut and become stale. Another way of saying the maxim is if you want to move up, you first have to move out. For some reason young people think it is wrong somehow to look for another job while they are currently working for a company. But in practice almost all you co-workers and everyone in the creative department are always looking for new jobs. I guarantee that everyone in the creative department now are always on the look out for a better job. No one will think it strange if you look for a job with another company while working in the data department. Don't advertise that you are looking for another job while working in a company, but if your boss does find out whatever you do don't lie and deny it. Just be polite and say you really enjoy your current work environment, but you also want to develop a career path. Frankly after working in any job for more than two years, the job becomes boring as h e double hockey sticks. Personally I think that is the reason why some people always are applying for other jobs -- after two years they are bored to tears.

The best advice i can give u is to stay for those 6 months but only if they assure u completely that u will get the other job.Otherwise there is no point in staying and doing a job you don't like and hate.If they don't give u the other job quit. But I completely believe in being safe,so first find a suitable job for yourself and then quit because it can take a long time to find a job, specially one that u love.

If you state your towm/state/country, then people might be able to give better advice.
In SA, with our high unemployment, my first response would be to stay put. You are white and male, so while you have a good paying job do not leave.
The DISADVANTAGE is that you might bet STUCK in back office. Make sure that you remain visible to the guys that handle the accounts. Also make sure that they KNOW about your ability to handle the type of work you want. (Volunteer extra work on weekends - the type you actually like to do).
BEST OF LUCK.
(In a country with a better economy, or where AA is not applied so strictly; it might be in your best interest to leave.)
